Not Meryl’s BestI love Meryl Streep and felt this could have been a much better movie. Along with Ms. Streep there is the lovely Audra MacDonald and Kevin Kline and a nice turn by Rick Springfield. However, the movie was in some parts too heavy when dealing with the daughters’ “Issue” and how she tried to resolve it prior to Ricki showing up and Ms. Streep at times lumbers through the movie as if she is coming off of a bad pill trip. Also some of the scenes showed in the preview which drew me to the movie were never included or done totally different in the movie which was disappointing. At this point Ms. Streep can cruise through any role of her choosing but given her storied career but given the supporting cast and their abilities I kind of expected way more than I got..Score: 3/5

. . . and Ricky Springfield too !Meryl Streep takes command of any role, and Ricki and the Flash is no different. Her presence is commanding. . . and then there’s old Rick Springfield. Whooda thunk that he’d be able to carry the sidekick role next to such a legend. The movie lacks a certain something but these two plus Kevin Kline makes this a one-off special, although a touch dark, treat !.Score: 5/5
Career Killer. Worst performance EVER.Perhaps, like me, you saw names like Meryl Streep and director, Jonathan Demme, and thought this would be an enjoyable movie. Surely, Meryl Streep, a talented and seasoned actress has the range to play an aging, unsuccessfully, "rocker." Unfortunately, Streep's performance is awful which matches her tone deaf singing perfectly. For some strange reason, Steep (or perhaps Demme) decided this character should act like she's high all the time. Except Streep doesn't appear to have any understanding whatsoever about what that looks like. The result is she seems like she has a debilitating, mental disorder where she cackles all the time. Perhaps Streep got confused at moments of the film and thought she was re-filming Into the Woods. If you're looking for a movie to mock with your friends, by all means, this is a wonderful choice. Otherwise, you should probably skip this movie..Score: 2/5

The WORST $5.99 I have EVER spent on iTunes!I wish I had trusted the Apple customer reviews instead of the rotten tomatoes 64% rating. Ricki is a character without a single redeeming quality and Meryl Streep is truly painful to watch. The rest of the characters and script are completely inauthentic, unappealing, and absolutely cringe worthy. You actually feel embarrassed for the cast by the end of the movie. This is Diablo Cody caricature at its absolute worst. It deserves a negative rating..Score: 1/5
Subtle and at times uncomfortableI think it must be tough to be a legendary actor and have every project you make compared against your epic catalogue of achievements. If you rent this movie when you really wanted to see French Lieutenants Woman- well… don’t blame this movie. Stand alone I think this movie is fantastic and speaks to Meryl Streep’s breadth of range. It has an indie feel- right sized- not trying to be more or less than it is. It’s classified as a comedy, but like so many of the films of today, that tag is inappropriate. It’s a drama filmed with love that has some laughs; it’s movie about family. The storyline is predictable, crafted honestly with a stellar cast and production. It seems as though Meryl Streep performed all of the music. For at least one close up, she’s seems to be playing the guitar… There are many scenes of Ricki singing with her band and this is one of the real treats of this movie. The musicians are tight. Rick Springfield does a great job. The music communicates. Though technically great, there’s that x-factor in the performance that moves us. We feel the meaning of the lyrics of some classic rock tunes and what they mean to Ricki, her band and groupies. I like that Ricki is not commercially successful as a musician - but that the character is successful in life. I hope Meryl Streep had a lot fun making this film. It looks like it. I loved the film. It’s an unexpected and welcome change. Meryl Streep continues to surprise..Score: 4/5
