Crappy movie based on a great book...The book was great, so I had high hopes for the movie. No such luck. First, Matt Damon can't act to save his life. He just can't. Nothing about Damon suggests that he could ever be an astronaut, and he does a poor job with the role. As other reviews have noted, the pace of this movie is also terrible. It's too slow! Finally, given Damon's clear hatred of the military, he has NO right portraying an astronaut. Don't waste your time & money on this movie. Having said that, I would readily fly to Mars just to leave Matt Damon on the surface. Maybe then, he’d stop making crappy movies..JcpoleScore: 1/5

Really good despite the fact that the math and much of the physics continues to escape me. Regardless, I got the drift. Enjoyed the movie as well.
In fact, I happened to be in Jordan ( Wadi Rum) after the movie came out and stood where Damon stood when he finally made it to the MAV. I could only imagine, which is the whole point isn’t it.

One of the best science fiction movies of our timeIn this age of science denial, I'm not only glad that this film was made, but am ecstatic that it got the reception it did. Despite the futuristic technology and farfetched plot devices like the storm, the science pays service to the story in otherwise quite realistic and plausible ways, making the audience believe that this is a very real potential future for human space exploration that we can expect to see in our lifetime. Pretty good.Some of it was overdramatized and so it cut some of the realism out of the (for the most part) credible storyline.
However I am so glad this movie was long. As a detail oriented person the more info I observe and think about that intrigues me (like NASA, ESA, CSA, as a whole-the more interested I become which in turn raises more questions the answers. That's one motive that made this movie thought provoking and ultimately enjoyable.
If this movie was condensed down to 90 minutes I think it would have not been as good a quality a film can be in relation the "science fiction" journey to Mars even though that "science fiction" will soon be history. (Not that the manned mission to Mars will be or at least one would hope it to not be as horrific of a scenario as this movie shows. But nevertheless - never say never with regards to what could potentially happen to and from Mars).

Má k dispozici jen hubené zásoby, a tak musí využít veškerý důvtip, invenci a technické znalosti, aby nejen přežil, ale také nalezl způsob, jak vyslat signál na Zemi, že je naživu. V okamžiku, kdy se mu to podaří, začne miliony kilometrů daleko od něj NASA a mezinárodní tým vědců neúnavně pracovat, aby dostali tohoto „Marťana“ domů.
