When Apollo astronaut Gene Cernan stepped on the moon in December 1972 he left his footprints and his daughter’s initials in the lunar dust. Only now, over forty years later, is he ready to share his epic but deeply personal story of fulfillment, love and loss. Cernan’s burning ambition carried him from a quiet Chicago suburb to the spectacular and hazardous environment of space, and ultimately, to the moon. Five years in the making, The Last Man on the Moon unveils a wealth of rare archive, and takes Cernan back to the launch pads of Cape Kennedy, to Arlington National Cemetery and to his Texas ranch, where he finds respite from a past that refuses to let him go. Sharing home movies, scrapbooks and intimate moments with his closest friends and family, he brings his spine-tingling experiences to the big screen more vividly than any moonwalker has done before.
The 1960s was an extraordinary time for the United States. Unburdened by post-war reparations, Americans were preoccupied with other developments like NASA, the game-changing space programme that put Neil Armstrong on the moon. Yet it was astronauts like Eugene Cernan who paved the uneven, perilous path to lunar exploration. A test pilot who lived to court danger, he was recruited along with 14 other men in a secretive process that saw them become the closest of friends and adversaries. In this intensely competitive environment, Cernan was one of only three men who was sent twice to the moon, with his second trip also being NASA’s final lunar mission. As he looks back at what he loved and lost during the eight years in Houston, an incomparably eventful life emerges into view. Director Mark Craig crafts a quietly epic biography that combines the rare insight of the surviving former astronauts with archival footage and otherworldly moonscapes.

History at its bestAfter watching this film. i know now that I am able to understand how he lived his life. With the frame and not being home all the time. The movie realy gets into the meaning of space flight and how it effected his person and others around him. Nicey done and not to long. And to the point. I enjoyed the fact he talks about the war and how he was and all the others were in like a bubble. Doing things that astronauts did.and yes he said how the other astronauts including himself. How there marrages went down hill. all for the name of NASA. That was the price they paid for frame. Nice to see a film with meaning and real type people. I most say I am very lucky to have seen this happen from the begining. What a ride i must say. Enjoy this moive my follow Aviators..Score: 5/5

Apollo 17 the last endeavor to the moonGene Cernan is one of the last living hero's from the era were nothing was known about space travel and they were the Guinea pigs. He and other dropped every responsibility to be the first to explore not on space but the moon. His last quote in the end of the movie, " I often tell young kids, and particularly my grandkids, don't ever count yourself out. You'll never know how good you are unless you try. Dream the impossible, and go make it happen. I walked on the moon." He's an inspiration and those words will stick with me forever. Thank you Gene Cernan.
