A black ops cyber-attack launched by the U.S. and Israel on an Iranian nuclear facility unleashed malware with unforeseen consequences. The Stuxnet virus infiltrated its pre-determined target only to spread its infection outward, ultimately exposing systemic vulnerabilities that threatened the very safety of the planet. Delve deep into the burgeoning world of digital warfare in this documentary thriller from Academy Award® winning filmmaker Alex Gibney.
Alex Gibney explores the phenomenon of Stuxnet, a self-replicating computer virus discovered in 2010 by international IT experts. Evidently commissioned by the US and Israeli governments, this malware was designed to specifically sabotage Iran’s nuclear programme. However, the complex computer worm ended up not only infecting its intended target but also spreading uncontrollably.

I Liked ItIt goes through the rough blueprint of destroying industrial control systems by infecting PLCs and feeding fake info back to a SCADA mainframe network. Virus was very sophisticated. It kept logs, had versions, an end date, a security certificate and four zero days. Of course there's patches now. The virus if both re-engineered with new zero days and twiked to attack other model PLCs could cause the same effects as an EMP attack. It's harmless now, but if altered by someone with the appropriate skillset and malicious intent it could end industrialized civilization. BRAVO! well done.10 July - update - very well put together - bravo! UPGRADED to 5 stars. Worth to watch even though its just for rent right now. I was always against the Iran deal, still am, but I see a clearer picture why it was done. --9July2016-- Ill grade this with 3 stars right now and return to edit. I have been working on my screenplay called "Insidious Plan" since Sept 2015. Hope to have it finished by SEPT 2016. I am always afraid of this, another movie coming out very similar. Since this is a documentary, I still have hopes for my own to be absolutely shocking. Anyway, here it goes - rental begin! :) I hope to return to give it more stars!.Score: 5/5

A Definite Must-See!Alarming but not alarmist, this movie makes a clear and cogent argument as to the U.S. involvement in offensive cyber warfare. ImportantAll the technical bits in the film have been in the public domain for quite a while now. This movies puts them together in a very dramatic way. The main message of the movie is not technical but instead attempts to show how important such behaviors are in the "Information Age" we now find ourselves in. Since the technical community has know about all this for some time then we should expect that they are currently and perhaps have already made decisions to implement the latest technologies in such a way as to make them resistant to some 'super-out-of-control' cyber attack. I am optimistic that careful planning, design and implementation of technology going forward may not make technology immune to attacks like the ones hightlighted in the film but can make technology much more resistant to such attacks. Of course, the ultimate plan for the development of technology is to open it up in such a way that no one group has privledged access that will it to attack another group..Score: 5/5
