The Edge of Seventeen Description

In the vein of classic coming-of-age films like Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, The Edge of Seventeen is a poignant and hilarious look at what it's like to be a teenager today. Growing up is hard, and life is no easier for Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld, Pitch Perfect 2), who is already at peak awkwardness when her best friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson, Ravenswood) begins dating her all-star brother Darian (Blake Jenner, Glee). All at once, Nadine feels more alone than ever. With the help of her reluctant sounding-board (Woody Harrelson, True Detective), she soon discovers that what feels like the end of the world may just be the beginning of growing up. Also starring Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer), see the movie critics are calling "an instant high school movie classic" (Dave Ehrlich, IndieWire).
Everyone knows that growing up is hard, and life is no easier for high school junior Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld), who is already at peak awkwardness when her all-star older brother Darian (Blake Jenner) starts dating her best friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson). All at once, Nadine feels more alone than ever, until the unexpected friendship of a thoughtful boy (Hayden Szeto) gives her a glimmer of hope that things just might not be so terrible after all.
Two high school girls are best friends until one dates the other's older brother, who is totally his sister's nemesis.

I've seen this movie with my friends and family and we all enjoyed the awkward teenage movie that is The Edge of Seventeen. Hailee plays Nadine effortlessly and I can't think of any actress more perfect for the role. Woody also does an amazing job as playing that laid back teacher you can talk to any time, no matter how harsh they are. Being a teenager (17) myself, I can relate to the awkward, antisocial, and sarcastic character that is Nadine. I'd definitely recommend it for others to watch/rent. 😌

This movie was the poor man's Juno. The brother is obviously in his mid 20s not a senior in high school, bad casting. The overall plot is about something that shouldn't be a plot in any movie. The main character is over dramatic and really annoying. She puts herself in bad situations. You don't really ever feel close to the characters, or enough to care. This is a non biased review by the way. I would wait until it's on television. Go spend your money on Juno, it's Gold.

I teach high school, I've seen these kids, I've gotten to know these kids, this hits right on the head what teenagers go through, or at least some of them. For so many kids going through what you see here you want to tell them high school isn't life, high school isn't what you're going to end up with, let yourself get past this and I was sooooooooo reminded of that watching this. The ending was a bit too pat and quick, I mean she does a life change overnight quite literally, but don't let that get in the way of all else that goes on in this movie, totally entertaining and fun to watch.
