The Edge of Seventeen Description

In the vein of classic coming-of-age films like Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, The Edge of Seventeen is a poignant and hilarious look at what it's like to be a teenager today. Growing up is hard, and life is no easier for Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld, Pitch Perfect 2), who is already at peak awkwardness when her best friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson, Ravenswood) begins dating her all-star brother Darian (Blake Jenner, Glee). All at once, Nadine feels more alone than ever. With the help of her reluctant sounding-board (Woody Harrelson, True Detective), she soon discovers that what feels like the end of the world may just be the beginning of growing up. Also starring Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer), see the movie critics are calling "an instant high school movie classic" (Dave Ehrlich, IndieWire).

One the best movies I've seen in a long time.

Another reviewer said it was in their "top 3 movies of all time," well I can only imagine that they have only seen 3 movies in their life because although this was an okay movie there is NO WAY that this should be in anyone's top 3, or 5, or even 10. It's your easy going tweenager movie. As an older person I spent much of the movie looking at my Instagram account, I did a crossword, and I played some video games all while listening to the story. It was Okay.......I guess.

At first I thought it would be your typical teen movie, but I was in for a surprise. It was entertaining, hilarious, witty. Every character supported the story line. Is worth the money.
  • Awesome! Very funny.

Great movie. Shows the struggles each individual has and how different people perceive them. A must see movie for generations to come.

I watched to see how life at 17 is now, being retired I wondered how many changes there have been. The insecurity of teens is the same, the tools they use are different. Girls do seem to be much more self aware, and more likely to speak up. The family dynamic after the loss of a parent, especially a father, was what I believe happens. Everyone has to change the roll they were in. It definitely gave me a perspective about how teenage life is today. While the main issues are the same, the handling of the problems does seem different to me. I grew up in the 50s and 60s; so that's my perspective.

This movie is completely free on YouTube and it's the whole thing and great quality. Don't waste your money here just watch it on YouTube.
  • Interesting comedy-drama

There's a lot to like here. I'd call the movie a comedy-drama, not pure comedy. The lead actress Hailee Steinfeld is really good, and Woody Harrelson nails every scene in his hilariously understated supporting role. To be vague and avoid spoilers, I think that some plot elements are too convenient and not realistic enough, that would be my only criticism.
  • Manipulated Ratings

Welcome to the popular and widely used tactic of 'fans' flooding comment boards with over the top enthusiastic ratings of their chosen one. This movie is not funny, not interesting, not well acted, and whose characters lack ...character. Gerry Seinfeld is funny, his daughter, I'm sure is a nice person. But he's not in the movie... and this story lacks humor or character.
