The Edge of Seventeen Description

In the vein of classic coming-of-age films like Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, The Edge of Seventeen is a poignant and hilarious look at what it's like to be a teenager today. Growing up is hard, and life is no easier for Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld, Pitch Perfect 2), who is already at peak awkwardness when her best friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson, Ravenswood) begins dating her all-star brother Darian (Blake Jenner, Glee). All at once, Nadine feels more alone than ever. With the help of her reluctant sounding-board (Woody Harrelson, True Detective), she soon discovers that what feels like the end of the world may just be the beginning of growing up. Also starring Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer), see the movie critics are calling "an instant high school movie classic" (Dave Ehrlich, IndieWire).

The Edge of Seventeen Movie Reviews

  • Irritating

The main character in this movie is really unpleasant. It is like spending 90 minutes with my, now adult, sister when a teenager but only in her worst moments. This character is an unbearable selfish bore. It is kind of unbelievable to me how unlikeable she is until the very last moments of the movie. Completely self involved spoiled brat. Yuck.

This, to me, accurately depicts what many teenagers go through during their teenage years. While the main character may be female, many male teens experience some of the trauma Nadine faces as well. Anybody can relate to this in some way! The cast was excellent and this film definitely had its funny moments. I'd recommend this to anyone!

I was so disappointed by this movie. I wanted it to be awesome, but I couldn't root for the MC. I didn't care about her problems and often agreed with the people around her that she was way off in her behavior. Couldn't really like anyone, actually, and when it was finished, I was sad to have spent any money on it - even if it was on sale.
  • Waste of time

I was hoping for an upbeat story about the transformation of some misfit teens like "perks of being a wallflower", etc. This was just so shallow, with no real story and a self-absorbed main character who never really gets over herself. Tt was just depressing that this got such rave reviews rotten tomatoes.
