Split Description

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan returns with an original thriller that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind. Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him - as well as everyone around him - as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.
When three girls are kidnapped by a man with 23 different personalities they have to work out which of those personalities will help them escape and which of those personalities will try to stop them.

Ella is half vampire and half human, a so called split. However Ella doesn't know about this. When Ella and her best friend Omer start a new high school year it's up to the vampire Leo to tell Ella who she really is. Leo joins high school, but his tasks isn't as easy as he thought it would be.

Split Movie Reviews

  • Fresh stuff...yay!

Tired of the old ideas being played out over and over? This movie is great, its smart, and keeps you guessing! I have had to watch it a few times because once you get to the end a lot makes sense and you want to rewatch it knowing "what you know now." Money and time well spent.

This movie was not only bad for the portrayal of character but leads the audience to believe or assume that such person with DID or "Split Personality Disorder" is in fact crazy, dangerous to the self or others. Also did not care for this movie in that I feel as though they did not put background in the other girls lives or even give a thorough background to ANY of them but instead have the audience assume a horrific background. When I did see this movie, the people around me did make me realize that the main character could have escaped plenty of times. Now we all might think that Yes, a young woman in this situation might be frightened or stunned but as shown in their "deep" background, she was skilled in hunting, observant s'y, high intelligence and showed signs of capability to use a gun. Such skills should have enhanced her skills and probability to escape under this circumstance. Or even kill him which she attempted plenty of times, EVEN with a shotgun and STILL failed! Another thing is, the ending was very controversial from whether it was him or not or was that the future or what was going on. A lot of parts were very confusing. Seeing the trailer wanted me to see it badly but now after seeing it, I am so disappointed.

Good psychologocal thriller. McAvoy and Anya do their usual good work. Some dark sexual undertones but it doesn't go overboard. NOT a movie for youmg kids. If you like dark and intense, you'll enjoy Split. Interesting final scene but I won't spoil it here. 3.75 out of 5.

Sadly, the big weakness of this movie is James McAvoy. He's a very good actor, but this movie tested -- and went beyond his skills. He looks like he's performing in "Split" -- even looking like he's in an acting class, projecting different personalities. It may be an odd comparison at first glance, but his many scenes can be compared to Brando in "Apocalypse Now," with the focus directly on him and how he emotes. And McAvoy just comes up short. For me, he just didn't hold my interest. I could see him acting, which took me out of the film. And then there's the loose end of the one heroine's story. Very odd back story pertaining to her, that has no closure. Quite dissatisfying. Now, one may argue that her story is realistic, but that realism is incongruent with the main story. It's a side story that just doesn't fit. Disappointed. With all that being said, if you find McAvoy fun/intriguing to watch, you may love the movie. It relies almost completely on his performance. !!BIG SPOILER!! As the story played out, and knowing that twists are Shyamalan are his signature move, I thought we'd see that the villain was a certain character's son from a previous Shyamalan film. But that was not the case.

A great imperfect thrill ride. McAvoy does an amazing job but it's the ending that really ties the movie all together. Overlook the flaws and enjoy the experience.

I don't normally go for thrillers but after reading the reviews it sounded like it might have substance. In fact it is just a cheap way of getting some people to view pretty young girls in situations where there is a threat they might get molested. Sick.
