A space thriller about the discovery of intelligent alien life.
The six-member crew of the International Space Station is tasked with studying a sample from Mars that may be the first proof of extra-terrestrial life, which proves more intelligent than ever expected.

Bad science, bad plotYour typical cheesy horror b-movie reborn. Basically, everything that happens is either: strictly improbable, implausible, and dumb. I love a good sci-fi flick, and I assure you that this is not one. It takes itself too seriously for the absurdity it contains. It starts off super serious and realistic like Gravity, but quickly loses focus of established scientific facts (and reality), falling into just about every bad sci-fi bad alien trope out there. It isn’t even self-consistent, noting that the wrong mix of atmosphere or temperature sends the organism into stasis. Minutes later it’s nonchalantly crawling around in hard vacuum. It’s bad. Expert scientists and doctors quickly lose any semblance of training and panic at every turn. It’s bad. The creature quickly becomes impervious to everything & the crew of trained professionals just as quickly become the worst decision makers ever. Ugh..Score: 1/5
GOODPicked this up while it was on sale and gave it a whirl. I love space movies and creature features so of course I had to jump on it. It’s definitely not perfect and there are some questionable choices made by the crew, but I can forgive it. It’s fun and thrilling and well-shot. But lordt, that ending was kind of a mess lol. I still recommend. Definitely a 4 out of 5 type of film..Score: 4/5

Best UNSCI-FI ever!DO NOT waste your time or money on this laughably far fetched movie. No frigin way no frigin how could a microscopic organism have that much strength, grow that fast, or have even a zillionth billionth of the intelligence this star fish alien exhibits. Seriously, this thing grows from a tiny little thing to a tentacled creature that can barely fit in an escape pod in a matter of hours?!!! I can hardly believe anyone in Hollywood risked their money to produce this, though I can imagine Ryan Reynolds pleading to the director to kill him off quickly! This is undoubtedly the most ridiculously outlandish movie I’ve ever seen and an embarrassment to the space and science community! 68% on rotten tomatoes??!! Wow, the critics must have been paid off big time or taking some mind altering drugs. Seriously, the best part of the movie is the music building to a crescendo as the first scene cuts to the title then rapidly down hill from there. No, I should say free fall from there. Not that it was even looking good from the get go... the first scene already had me doubting whether to continue watching. The female commander of the station seemed incompetent and naive. Like they would really risk a multi billion dollar space station by trying to retrieve an out of control probe returning from Mars? Lol... I expected the catch of the probe would result in total destruction of the space station similar to what we saw in Gravity. That would at least have provided a rationale for the low fuel emergency later in the movie! You've been warned!.Score: 1/5
HorribleThis is MST3K material. At best. Entire, critical, plot points have been either left out or cut out as part the stupendously horrendous editing. The ONLY way this movie could be believable would be if NASA was run by a science denier under an inept administration. Hmm. Nope, still gonna rate it 1 star....Score: 1/5

Effective Sci-fi Thriller with Sympathetic Characters and Believable AlienYes, Life could be said to be derivative, like Alien, Star Wars and Avatar were, but despite the fact that these films can trace their inspiration to other films and genres didn't lessen their effectiveness. This is the case with Life. So what is refreshing here? The alien, for once, isn't humanoid in design (as defined by the man in the rubber suit), and doesn't display any obvious anthropomorphic behaviour as in the majority of past monster movies. It acts like something trying to survive. Also, the human characters have heart; you care about them because they show their vulnerability and work together well, instead of being at odds with one another as in so many other sci-fi movies of the past. So you care what happens to them. And they don't behave like someone out of a Marvel comic either. Great CGI effects, believable acting and a taut story that keeps you engaged right to the end.
