Betting on Zero Description

From ‘Darfur Now’ writer/director Ted Braun comes a riveting docu-thriller following controversial hedge fund titan Bill Ackman as he puts a billion dollars on the line in his crusade to expose Herbalife as the largest pyramid scheme in history. Herbalife claims Ackman is simply a market manipulator out to make a fortune from short-selling their stock, but Ackman insists Herbalife deliberately targets low-income and immigrant communities and robs them of their life savings. Herbalife is joined on the counterattack by longtime Ackman nemesis (and fellow Wall Street billionaire) Carl Icahn, while Ackman finds an unlikely ally in Chicago activist Julie Contreras, who rallies the Latino community to get the Federal government to intervene. Blending tales of high-stakes corporate intrigue with working-class people caught in the crossfire, Braun paints a stirring picture of the American Dream gone wrong.
A look on how Multi level Marketing companies do their business and how it affects on people's lives.

  • The “Negative” Reviews are Fake — Take a Closer Look

When a film sits at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with glowing reviews from The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Village Voice and The Hollywood Reporter to name just a few, you have to wonder about “negative” reviews claiming Betting On Zero is perhaps the worst documentary ever made. The truth of the matter is Herbalife and their supporters have spread misleading information about this film from before its release at the Tribeca Film Festival, and have stooped to such tactics as launching an attack website that masquerades as the film’s official website, and buying up nearly 200 tickets to the film’s Washington D.C. premiere so as to leave the theater empty/keep the public out (something John Oliver had a field day with on his show Last Week Tonight). As for their claim that Bill Ackman paid for the film, even Herbalife admits this isn’t true. The real financier, who went on national TV this summer to talk about Betting On Zero, is indeed a short seller and MLM critic, but had no interest or financial stake in Herbalife — long or short.

I felt like I was watching a Wall Street version of The Shaw Shank Redemption. Good documentary. God Speed to Bill Ackman and his team.

Enjoyed the movie in a sad way. Terrible account of what has happened and terrible that it continues.
  • What a Farce

It sells itself as a documentary but is clearly a paid advertisement by Bill Ackman. Braun should be ashamed to put this under the category of documentary. Don't waste your time or money.
  • Just another attempt

How else can he attempt to destroy a company? Oh let's make a documentary. It's too one sided. Btw, credits in the production should be given to both sides not just to the people who came out and attacked Herbalife. This looked too planed. And the billion dollar will still be lost.

  • The definition of "documentary"

As an investor, this story is intriguing - read the news accounts, and the feature stories in Vanity Fair and Fortune. As a fan of documentaries, I was quite disappointed because it showed none of the balance and focus on the facts found in much of the print and even TV record. Documentaries can be both interesting and true to the facts. When it lacks the latter, it is no longer a documentary.
  • This is the best Wall Street And MLM doc ever

The Herbalife reviews start to come in.. This movie was awesome, and so overdue! It is amazing that this company and its herd of followers are still allowed to run this scam! The one start reviews are just another example of exactly what I just watched in this movie!
  • Fake reviews! This was pretty awful

Documentary was boring. They just repeated the same crap all through. Could have been 10 mins long. Waste of my 6.99
