Russell drew from personal and family experience with depression and bipolar disorder. As Russell said, "You’re not coming from a reckless place. You’re coming from a very careful place.” Under his direction, actors Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, and Jacki Weaver deliver a film that lends insight to the effects of mental illness on individuals and families, that uses comedy to balance the unavoidable discomfort of conflict and breakdown, and demonstrates the warmth we share in repair and reconciliation. — Like many of the reviewers here, I’m diagnosed bipolar. Going into this film, I certainly didn’t believe it would accurately address the complexity of psychiatric disorder. I’ll save you the suspense - obviously a film can’t speak directly to every condition or be totally synchronized with medical science that is constantly evolving. Part of me cringed at the “no meds” philosophy of the protagonists, but still I laughed so hard as Cooper and Lawrence went down their list of previous medications and side effects, which has it’s share of sad funny truth. What made this film so enjoyable for me, and for my wife and parents that occasionally have to help point me in the forward-moving direction, was that the general themes are based in reality rather than caricature, reminding us that life is messy, but occasionally there is still a silver lining..Me Fail English?Score: 5/5

A LossFirst and foremost this movie actually is a five out of five. Deservingly. My score given is for the support I recently received through apple. I bought this movie back in 2015. The person who helped me verify the purchase was very specific about it. April 2015. I watched this movie this year on my account. But somehow, magically, it has disappeared from my account and I either have to purchase this again or rent it. Now I was told that the movie was taken down during the time that I was on the phone with support. I assured the employee that the movie could still be purchased during this call. Then I was told that the company that owns the movie (not iTunes) took the movie down, revamped it and then put it back up making it a completely new product. I already paid for this movie. Why should I pay for it again? The issue was resolved with three free rentals. Three free rentals. Three free rentals? Are you kidding me, apple? Just put the movie , that I clearly purchased years back, back on my account. It’s real simple. The sad thing is is that I’ll probably give you money again for this because the movie was that good. Listen, I’ve been an apple consumer since the first iPhone. I have poured thousands, like many others, into this money pit called “apple.” But when you tell me that I can’t watch a movie I purchased because it somehow got removed from my account and then tell me I have to buy it again ... come on apple. Derweil setzt Pat alles daran, sich wieder in Form zu bringen und Nikki wieder zurückzugewinnen. Auf seinen ausgiebigen Joggingtouren trifft er auf Tiffany, die ihren Mann, der Polizist war, bei einem Einsatz verloren hat, und nun die Trauerarbeit durch nymphomane Tendenzen kompensiert. Sie verspricht Pat, den Kontakt zu Nikki herzustellen, wenn er mit ihr für ein Tanzturnier trainiert. An sich ein klarer Deal; aber je näher der Tag des Wettbewerbs rückt, desto verwickelter wird die Angelegenheit.

Tiffany nabídne Patovi dohodu: pomůže mu sblížit se znovu s manželkou a on ji na oplátku pomůže s něčím pro ni velice důležitým – shání totiž partnera do taneční soutěže. Ani jeden z nich netuší, že se díky tomuto spojenectví mezi nimi vytváří nečekané pouto a oba zjišťují, že je společně trávený čas naplňuje neskonalým štěstím.

Slovenčina Pat Solatano skončil v psychiatrickej liečebni po tom, ako prišiel o všetko – prácu, dom aj manželku. Po ôsmich mesiacoch sa vracia bývať do rodičovského domu, a poskúša sa odznova budovať svoj život a tiež napraviť vzťah so svojou bývalou ženou. Stretne však Tiffany a veci sa začnú komplikovať. Tiffany má veľa vlastných problémov a navrhne Patovi dohodu – ona mu pomôže vrátiť sa k žene a on zasa pomôže jej. Neobyčajná dohoda medzi nimi vytvorí silné puto a obaja zrazu zažívajú dávno stratené pocity šťastia.
