Amazing!I know there are different strokes for different folks, but this film blew me away. Isaac and Bale were legendary, and despite the anguish, you are left with a sense of hope for the futue. The Turkish denialists came out in full force, flooded IMDB, scared off many critics and studios, but this is one of the highest audience rated Rotten Tomatoes films of this year. Outstanding MovieI don't know how the detractors of this film are saying the love story got in the way. It was a great story, excellently told, helping the viewer feel the great sense of loss in an extremely tragic time in history. The history of the genocide is not sacrificed at all. Great history lesson in a beautifully choreographed movieMy grandfather was a great storyteller. His stories of survival were very detailed. After all, he survived for years as an orphan in a foreign desert.
This movie touches on the event that led to the first genocide of the 20th C. Its data was possibly used to plan the Holocaust in WWII. Yet many countries out of political reasons shy and shrivel to call it what it really was.
This movies setting being the beginning of the genocide in 1915, is a love story and one of survival , where the landscape keeps changing constantly against the protagonist. Its details, acting, data provided and storytelling is wonderfully planned.
Plus, knowing that all benefits of this movie will goto Genocide Prevention funds, it makes it more worthwhile..RakfamilyScore: 5/5

Outstanding - balances strong history with a moving love storyThere's no doubt that the Armenian genocide provides a controversial backdrop in which to stage a love story. But The Promise navigates this perfectly; providing a compelling story that is also remarkably accurate (even down to the detail of the Turkish Interior Minister attempting to collect insurance money on the very Armenians he had killed) and . The result is a tale that moves you on so many different levels. You're moved by the plight of the Armenian people, but also by characters and the love story that unfolds. Every Turk still in denial about the Armenian genocide should see this. It provides a path into the real history of the events that may be more accessible than more traditional books and articles.
