I enjoyed this, The truth is out there.Al Gore, Could have taken an easier road all those years ago. We still have a consumption based growth model that does not build a better economy, health care system, a system that truly lifts all people up! Ignore the deniers...Watch the filmThe science behind humanity polluting the planet and the planet reacting is clear. It isn't up for debate and the happenings in this film are observable fact. For every person spreading propaganda about "alarmists" there is someone who will push for a clean future, one that addresses this crisis of our time. Disappointing. So, the entire 90+ minute movie can be summed into three parts: 1. 30 minutes of Gore talking about his career, his family and himself. (Irrelevant to the movie and its supposed purpose) 2. 30 minutes of very weak material in which he shows us flooding in Miami and New York, and one ice shelf melting on a hotter than normal day. India is hotter (yet a noticeable absence of any in depth analysis) Of this 30 minutes, only 15 minutes contain anything remotely resembling why one would purchase or rent this sequel. The other 15 minutes detail how he was going to personally change the world, but his political rivals stopped or delayed him. Again, this was more about himself than the issue at hand. 3. 30 minutes of people installing solar energy initiatives. No meaningful statistics. No indication of what this could mean. No analysis. He spent 10 minutes of the last 30 minutes on a photo op in a republican town that had supposedly converted fully to solar and renewables, but didn’t even broach the subject of how it was done, what it meant in the grand scheme of things for emissions, or how others cities could possibly go down this road. Instead, he spends valuable screen time on...you guessed it... playing up the photo op side of things with the republican mayor. I’m it sure if Gore has reached the stage in life where he finds himself needing to feel good about what he has done in life, but this movie was simply a vehicle to try and achieve this. Having enjoyed the first movie, I pre-ordered the sequel thinking he would focus on the planet and a detailed analysis of where we really are and where we are going. Case in point: those carbon dioxide emissions he detailed so thoroughly in the first movie barely get a mention in this sequel. The fundamental basis for global warming, and there is one sentence about how much is going into the air daily, but absolutely zero on how that releases to the past, or what the trend is for the future, or what it means for now. That shifting mean temperature graph showed promise, but you went nowhere with it. Opportunity lost. Lastly (and perhaps most curiously) there is repeated reference to some sort of program for training climate ambassadors, but the film fails to detail what they do, how they got involved and what their purpose is. How are people supposed to empathize with the plight and get involved unless you detail the opportunity and the call to action. The only messages I walked away with after watching this sequel are: A) we should revere Gore and his family. B) It’s too late to turn the tide of global warming. C) some folks are installing solar because it’s cheaper than non-renewable, and some in Republican towns. Mr. Gore, we deserved a better movie than this..Score: 1/5
