In the near future, a time of artificial intelligence: 86-year-old Marjorie (veteran actress Lois Smith, TWISTER, TRUE BLOOD, DEAD MAN WALKING)—a jumble of disparate, fading memories—has a handsome new companion (Jon Hamm, MAD MEN, BABY DRIVER) who looks like her deceased husband and is programmed to feed the story of her life back to her. What would we remember, and what would we forget, if given the chance? Also starring Academy Award® winners Geena Davis (THELMA & LOUISE) and Tim Robbins (THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, MYSTIC RIVER), MARJORIE PRIME is based on Jordan Harrison’s Pulitzer-nominated play, exploring memory and identity, love and loss.
A service which creates holographic projections of late family members allows an elderly woman to spend time with a younger version of her deceased husband.

Really thought provokingYeah, this is a great cast - Lois Smith is incredible, and a really interesting take on who we are as humans surrounded with all this technology. Rented it, watched it then bought it. I never do that. Lois Smith gives the best performance I've seen in a long time..Score: 5/5
Who is the real one that needs help?I haven't finished the movie, but I decided to write a review anyway. This movie is hard to watch for me. Too real, too emothional. Does it scare that one day we will all be old and alone?I can relate to the daughter Tess. We tend to blame our parents for whatever doesn't work out for us. Tess resents herself and her mother, (for whatever reason they way she was brought up). I do not like the way she treats her mother Marjorie the minute the movie starts. Tess thinks she is taking care of her mother and tries to be in charge of Marjorie's life. Tess resents the relationship between Marjorie and Walter Prime. Just leave the poor old lady alone and let her have some fun. Whatever she has done to you as a mother is in the past. Have some empathy. I can tell Tess could also be struggling her relationship with her won daughter. The kindness of Jon warms my heart..Score: 4/5
"Marjorie Prime: A Poignant Exploration of the Boundaries Between Memory and Reality""Marjorie Prime" is a thought-provoking and melancholic meditation on memory, mortality, and the nature of reality. Directed by Michael Almereyda and based on a Pulitzer Prize-nominated play by Jordan Harrison, the film takes place in a near future where advanced artificial intelligence technology allows people to create "primes", holographic projections of deceased loved ones that can converse with them and help them relive cherished memories. The story follows Marjorie (Lois Smith), an elderly woman struggling with dementia, who spends her days talking to a prime of her late husband Walter (Jon Hamm) and reminiscing about their past. Her daughter Tess (Geena Davis) and son-in-law Jon (Tim Robbins) visit her regularly, trying to connect with her and reconcile their own complicated feelings about the primes. As the narrative unfolds, the audience gets a glimpse into the complex dynamics of the family and the challenges of dealing with loss, regret, and the fleeting nature of human existence. One of the strengths of "Marjorie Prime" is its ability to tackle profound philosophical questions without being heavy-handed or pretentious. Almereyda approaches the material with a quiet and contemplative tone, using long takes, static camera angles, and minimalistic production design to create a sense of intimacy and introspection. The dialogue is sparse but loaded with meaning, as the characters engage in elliptical conversations that reveal as much about what they don't say as what they do. The performances are also exceptional, with Lois Smith delivering a tour-de-force portrayal of a woman struggling to hold on to her memories and identity. Her nuanced expressions and subtle gestures convey a range of emotions, from joy and nostalgia to confusion and despair, and make Marjorie a relatable and sympathetic character. Jon Hamm and Geena Davis are equally impressive in their supporting roles, bringing depth and complexity to their characters' relationships with Marjorie and each other. Another notable aspect of the film is its exploration of the ethical and social implications of AI technology. As the characters interact with their primes and confront the limitations and distortions of memory, they raise important questions about the nature of consciousness, free will, and the ethics of creating digital copies of human beings. The film does not offer easy answers or moralizing messages, but instead invites the audience to reflect on their own beliefs and values. However, "Marjorie Prime" is not without its flaws. The slow pace and minimal plot may alienate some viewers who prefer more action-driven narratives. The film also relies heavily on exposition and dialogue, which may feel artificial or contrived at times. Additionally, some of the subplots and themes are underdeveloped or unresolved, leaving the audience with a sense of ambiguity and uncertainty. "Marjorie Prime" is a haunting and evocative film that explores the complex interplay between memory, identity, and technology. It is a testament to the power of cinema to stimulate our minds and emotions and to challenge our assumptions and beliefs. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it is a must-see for anyone interested in science fiction, philosophy, or human relationships..Score: 4/5
