In this follow-up film to SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF!, James Garner portrays a con artist who runs off with bride-to-be Marie Windsor to the small Western town of Purgatory where the good citizens mistake him for famous gunslinger Chuck Connors. Garner is actually delighted with the mistake and decides to take the town for everything he can get! Also on hand is Garner's sidekick, dim-witted Jack Elam, and a love interest, tomboyish Suzanne Pleshette, whose ambition is to start a ladies finishing school. But when genuine-gunslinger Connors arrives in town and challenges Garner, Garner remarks, "I'm slow...but you're slower." We will never know...Connors shoots himself in the foot.
A con artist arrives in a mining town controlled by two competing companies. Both companies think he's a famous gunfighter and try to hire him to drive the other out of town.

Worse than even most sequelsEnjoyed Support Your Local Sheriff recently. This promised to be similar. Yes, it was similar but was totally irritating. We turned it off. Had we seen this first, we never would have considered Sheriff. This was that much worse. I would give it zero stars if that were an available choice.Score: 1/5
Support your local gunfighterMy husband & I enjoy this movie every time. Wonderful cast, cute lines & well written for a comedy! All the cast does a great job, Pleshette is awesome as a kooky small town girl dying for the big city. Support your Local Sheriff is real good but I like the cast in Support your Local Gunfighter the best..Score: 5/5
A bit disappointingIt is a good movie that, I believe, missed a lot of opportunities to be a great comedy. Garner carries the movie with the help of some of the cast, but the screenwriting just wasn’t there to make this what might have been a great movie and comedy..Score: 3/5

Love it!One of my favorite movies from when I was a kid...my brother dragged me kicking and screaming to the theatre to see Support Your Local Sheriff, and I loved it, and still do to this day. This sequel was also a lot of fun, but I look forward to the store adding the original. If you like Maverick, or westerns that don't take themselves too seriously, this is a great movie choice for you!.Score: 5/5
