Wonderful MemoriesI remember watching this with my sister when I was really little, like six or seven. I loved it then, though I really didn't fully understand it. However, I didn't have to- I was very entertained. The music is so great, this movie is worth viewing, even now, I'm all grown up, I still watch it every now and again. O.K. movie, but great soundtrackThis musical has more than one problem added to it: it wasn't the true story of Xanadu - written by Samuel L. Coleridge back in the 1800s. This movie is nothing more than a dance routine and that's about it. The only actors that were really great in it were Gene Kelly and Olivia Newton-John - Michael Beck wasn't really that great, and it looked as if he was trying very hard to look the part in the movie. He failed and so did the movie, but the soundtrack was, and still is, fantastic! The reason for the three stars, is that I was hoping for much more than what the movie gave. Sadly, the Canadian rock group Rush did a far better job with their version of the song Xanadu - came out many years before ELO's version did, but their's was also well done. Needless to say, the writers should've been fired from their jobs just for the very, very poor screenwiting..Score: 3/5
LOVE this movie!I was born in 1971 - a time of roller skates, satin jackets, and Olivia Newton-John. Along with an amazing soundtrack, everything about this movie reminds me of being a young girl, when fantasy was untarnished, before computers and cell phones and the worries of being an adult...I cannot believe the low percent on rotten tomatoes. Don't listen to the bad reviews! This is a classic, a cult classic, and the bad acting is just part of the charm. Xanadu forever!.Score: 5/5

XanaduThis movie is a mystery. After seeing a local production of the stage show, we wanted to see the movie that spawned the stage show (yes the movie came first). The libretto for the movie is not the same as the stage show. In fact, much of the movie wasn't the same at all or as good. After viewing the movie, I can't fathom how they raised the money to mount the stage show. There is nothing in the movie that would stimulate an investor to think "yes people will flock to see this". Both the lyricists have a considerable body of work. Jeff Lynne from his days in the Electric Light Orchestra and John Farrar from the Shadows and working with Olivia Newton john. Little of what is in the show reflects the best of their work. In fact much was added to the stage show. In fact, after raising $5 million dollars the stage show pokes fun at the movie and was critically acclaimed. So much so that after its run on Broadway a touring company was mounted and toured. Bottom line, if Xanadu comes to a theatre near you, it's a lot of fun if done well. But, give the movie a pass. I bought it and deleted it. It's not worth the ram..Score: 2/5

Massive Cheese FestBad acting, bad script, this movie could only work as a spectacle, but also fails at that most of the time. It has a number of good songs and Gene Kelly is charming whenever he appears. He easily outdances anyone else in this movie, but he was sixty eight when it was made and not at his peak. The movie sort of has a disco derby theme but no one manages to do anything impressive on roller skates. Olivia Newton John looks uncomfortable on skates and probably just glad she didn't fall. Micheal Beck looks more annoyed than in love with her, which is too bad because his character is such a lucky guy. He is a frustrated artist when a muse just falls in love with him for no reason, and then a rich old guy gifts him a partnership in a night club for no reason. Maybe the reason would make more sense if the artistic vision turned out as anything but a mess in the end. The ending spectacle when the nightclub opens should have been the best part of the movie, but the choregraphy and cimetography are a chaotic disaster. If you missed this movie when it came out in 1980, just consider yourself lucky..Score: 1/5
