It's a new night for terror - and a new dawn in horror movie-making when special-effects genius Tom Savini (creator of the spectacularly gruesome make-up in Friday the 13th and Creepshow) brings modern technology to this colorful remake of George A. Romero's 1968 cult classic. Seven strangers are trapped in an isolated farmhouse while cannibalistic zombies - awakened from death by the return of a radioactive space probe - wage a relentless attack, killing (and eating) everyone in their path. The classic for the 90s: graphic, gruesome and more terrifying than ever!
After inheriting the family mortuary, a pyrophobic mortician accidentally exposes hundreds of un-cremated bodies to toxic medical waste. As the corpses re-animate, the mortician's inheritance-seeking younger brother unexpectantly shows up, stumbling upon a full zombie outbreak!

The Girl can speak...I am a die hard George a. Romero fan, he created the true modern zombie, but he honestly didnt have Tom Savini when the original NOTLD was being made. Dont get me wrong, nothing beats the original, it is the definitive zombie movie of all time, but one thing about this remake i loved was that it took away the one anoyance i had with the original, Barbara. In the original, they really did come and get her like her brother had jokingly warned, she sat on the couch for most of the movie til she decided to go outside, made a comment about going outside, and then she gets gets dragged away and eaten after seeing her brother as a zombie. Fine, but i found the character just someone in the way, in this version she gets up and kicks but. Nothing is going to stop her, not slow walking zombies who cant open a door, or a couple of arguing macho men with differing opinions about where the tv should be. This movie is really made cool and legit was that Romero wrote the screenplay and was involved in the majority of the process, its still his film. To add some sugar on top, there is a scene at the end with a helicopter flying over the tree line, most fans believe that it is the copter from the orignal Dawn of the dead and the camp barbara is at is the one they fly over when refueling, I personally believe this even though savini will never admit it..Score: 4/5
JoshKnowsHorrorDo not believe the review that give this film one star. This is a classic! and nothing less. Master Make-up artists Tom Savini's remake makes a great companion to George Romero's Original. In many ways Savini has improved the film. Cutting out unnecessary scenes that were in the original. Tony Todd gives a great performance. If you like zombie movies this is one of the best ever made!.Score: 5/5
Excellent remake of a cult classicThis is just an outstanding remake of the original film with some differences in the story line, mainly the climax. Great direction, acting, production, and excellent special effects. Definitely worth checking out. DO NOT listen to the haters who are just so stuck on the original or George Romero in general. Don't get me wrong, I love all of Romero's zombie flicks , but just because this one isn't directed by Romero, it's not a reason to bash it. It still holds alot of the underlying social allegories of the first film..Score: 4/5
It works for what it isMany people are knocking this movie because its a Re-make, now I am not a big supporter of the re-make movement as it is today, I cant deny the fact that I enjoy this movie. Sure it isn't the same movie as the Romero classic but its not really supposed to be, much like John Carpenter's version of The Thing is a far cry from the classic. True underlying alligory is not there you gotta realize that most of the stuff that Romero was hinting at when he made the original, those issues werent as applicable in the middle 90s. Also this wasnt some hack deciding to make a remake so he can cash in on someone elses idea, Tom Savini (the director) owed his start to Romero, he did the make-up in Dawn of the Dead. Also this wasnt some guy that just stole it from the creator, Heck not only did Romero give him his blessing to direct, Romero produced and wrote the screenplay for the remake. For a Romero Zombie Movie (since he wrote the screenplay) it is definately not his best, but then again it surely isnt his worst, (I would give Survival of the Dead that most dubious honor). The pacing, camera work, lighting and sound effects are all good. the makup and effects are very good for the time and still holds up pretty well today. In short if you are looking for a movie that has all the whitty subtext and illusions to current (as of that time) political and civil issues then you are gonna be let down. If you are in the mood for a good zombie film thats fairly straightforward then this one might just be worth watching..Score: 4/5

To Keep it Simple...Romero's original Night of the Living Dead is a monument to the horror genre and is possibly the best of his work. This remake is a shame and cloaks the true originality of the first. It has nothing to say about the (back then's) time, whereas Romero's allegory -- along with the original Dawn of the Dead still hold up to those that actually "see" their meaning. Tom Savini RulesWow this was the first zombie movie i ever saw on Tnt's "Monster-vision". I love this movie the characters are great and the location and the zombies look phenom. My only problem with this movie is that it continues to be rated R. I as a fan would love to see all the extra gore that was deemed unworthy by the FCC. So please someone release the gore!! I think if people saw the great zombie kills this movie would compare to the orignal Dawn of the Dead and Day!.Score: 5/5
