Genius!!!!I had not really heard of this play until some time before my high school decided to put it on. Now I am completely enthralled with it! As an apostle in the play I was in most every scene and I had to resist singing all the songs that weren't mine. This show is genius, not really for the music itself, as in the pit music, but for the words that fit perfectly and create a dazzling story. I also admired the fact that the play brought up some contraversy. 1- Pilate may or may not have been sympathetic to Jesus, but it the play he was obviously willing to let Jesus go. 2- in judas's death he screams "I've been used". The only thing that could mean to me is that he feels god had used him to complete the prophesy, which is true, but some would dissagree. 3- there is no ressurection. The catholic church made a statement when this play was released that this was not a source for students to learn from, since there was no ressurection of the lord and therefore did not accurately portray the signifigance of the sacred story and blah blah blah. This play does a wonderfully intelligent job of filling the pieces the bible doesn't. 4- Mary magdeline was not a prostitute!!!! Where does it say that?!? It doesn't even infer that she may have been a prostitute!!! This annoys me. A lot. And plus she wasn't the woman who was going to be stoned but Jesus saved her. Although I can understand the addition of this, since it's a good thing to have in the play and there really isn't another woman to have be the woman... And the addition of another song, if it were to be another woman, would dissrupt the smoothness of the show. So let's all clap for Tim Rice on that one. This movie is phonomenal. BUY IT!!!.Score: 5/5

A great film.If you remove the religion from the story, you're left with myriad great performances in a very compelling film. The story is told through several songs, and the audio quality is such that you can clearly follow the dialogue. The selection of voices is one of the most remarkable collections ever assembled. Ted Neely is just one of many. In the end, this is a story of finding the courage of one's convictions - or not. Critics be damned, this remains one of my all time favourites..Score: 5/5
