Deutsch Joel Barish und Clementine Kruczynski sind ein äußerst gegensätzliches Paar. Er ist zurückhaltend und geordnet, sie ist das krasse Gegenteil. Doch dann, eines Tages, trennt sich Clementine nach einem Streit plötzlich von Joel. Italiano Joel e Clementine sono una coppia molto innamorata. Un giorno però, la ragazza, stanca della sua relazione ormai in fase di declino, decide, mediante un esperimento scientifico, di farsi asportare dalla mente la parte relativa alla storia con Joel. Il giovane, una volta venuto a conoscenza di questo fatto, sceglie di fare altrettanto ma durante il procedimento cambia idea.

Bu gelişme üzerine küplere binen adam, aynı prosedürü kendi üzerinde de gerçekleştirmek ister...Film, adamın hafızaları silinirken, yaşanılan ilişkiyi gözler önüne serer. Český Život osamělého a nesmělého Joela se od základu změní, když potká excentrickou a temperamentní Clementine. Ta je výstřední ve všech směrech a k bláznivým kouskům stále úspěšněji vyzývá i Joela, jenže je rovněž nevyrovnaná a výbušná a jednoho dne se rozhodne Joela zbavit a začít znovu. Na experimentální klinice se podrobí vymazání paměti, a jelikož pokus dopadne úspěšně, rozhodne se zdrcený Joel pro stejné řešení. Nemá ale štěstí, tentokrát se zákrok vymkne lékaři z rukou a dílo zkázy dokoná jeho asistent, který se místo pečlivého monitorování mozkové činnosti klienta nechá svést k divokým erotickým hrátkám. Režisér umí mistrovsky rozrušovat časoprostorovou kontinuitu a nahrazovat ji asociativním spojováním útržků, jež pocházejí z různých vrstev paměti, a zde se tento princip uplatní při rekonstrukci celého vztahu ústřední dvojice. Odvíjí se pozpátku, k některým zážitkům se film opakovaně vrací, mnohé deformuje v závislosti na Joelových rozjitřených emocích.

Tá je výstredná vo všetkých smeroch a na bláznivé kúsky čoraz úspešnejšie vyzýva aj Joela, lenže je zároveň nevyrovnaná a výbušná a jedného dňa sa rozhodne Joela zbaviť a začať znovu. Na experimentálnej klinike sa podrobí vymazaniu pamäti, a keďže pokus dopadne úspešne, rozhodne sa zdrvený Joel pre rovnaké riešenie. Nemá ale šťastie, tentoraz sa zákrok vymkne lekárovi z rúk a dielo skazy dokoná jeho asistent, ktorý sa namiesto starostlivého monitorovania mozgovej činnosti klienta nechá zviesť k divokým erotickým hrám. Režisér vie majstrovsky rozrušovať časopriestorovú kontinuitu, nahrádzať ju asociatívnym spájaním útržkov, ktoré pochádzajú z rôznych vrstiev pamäti a tu sa tento princíp uplatní pri rekonštrukcii celého vzťahu ústrednej dvojice. Odvíja sa dozadu. K niektorým zážitkom sa film opakovane vracia a mnohé deformuje v závislosti na Joelových rozjatrených emóciách.

Joelis, savo širdyje vis dar puoselėjantis šiltus ir aistringus jausmus Clementine, negali susitaikyti, kad jo mylimoji pasiryžo dirbtinai ištrinti iš atminties visus prisiminimus, susijusius su jų meile. Interviews with art world figures and vintage clips of Kostabi's outlandish television appearances are entertaining and insightful, but Con Artist's best moments come in the abundant tag-along footage Sládek shoots with the artist. While getting as close as one can to a man who's been called "the black hole of irony," Sládek also begs an interrogation into what American culture is based on, and what it takes to pop its bubble.
