Over twenty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa’s District 9 as the world’s nations argued over what to do with them. Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens’ welfare – they will receive tremendous profits if they can make the aliens’ awesome weaponry work. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA. The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head when an MNU field operative, Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley), contracts a mysterious virus that begins changing his DNA. Wikus quickly becomes the most hunted man in the world, as well as the most valuable – he is the key to unlocking the secrets of alien technology. Ostracized and friendless, there is only one place left for him to hide: District 9.

Thirty years ago, aliens arrive on Earth. Not to conquer or give aid, but to find refuge from their dying planet. Separated from humans in a South African area called District 9, the aliens are managed by Multi-National United, which is unconcerned with the aliens' welfare but will do anything to master their advanced technology. When a company field agent contracts a mysterious virus that begins to alter his DNA, there is only one place he can hide: District 9.

Too much profanityThe 'premise' was ok. But, I was a soldier, and when thirty minutes of the movie is one word? A fun movie that keeps moving.An interesting movie that delved into a human problem by the use of aliens, similar to how some of the original Star Treks dealt with human cultural issues. The aliens and special effects are great, the main characters aren’t actors you have seen a jillion times, and it’s a sci-fi movie that is thought provoking…what more do you need?.StewthefishScore: 4/5

All the people who gave the movie 1 star were wrong. Don't listen to them.I loved this movie! The acting was great and realistic, like it was on the news rather than in a movie. The beginning had everything to do with the rest of the movie, even though someone else said it didn't. Maybe they shouldn't have watched the movie when they were 10. Neither should the guy who said the plot was lame, he shouldn't have watched in when he was 10 either. Also that guy Skippy Mac or whatever his/her name is who said that the alien fuel turns people into aliens, but in real life that doesn't happen, have an imagination. In case you haven't noticed, Skippy, it's not real life, it's a movie! Seriously, if you're an uptight 65 year old who has no imagination, this isn't the movie for you. But if you're a young, fun loving person who has an imagination, WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!! I mean everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but have an imagination and at least understand the movie (unlike those 10 year olds I mentioned above) before you write a review. Enough dissing people. Let's get back to the movie-It has action, suspense, drama, and even a little comedy. It's like all the genres for the price of 1! Sure they say the F bomb a lot but because of their accents, it sounds like fook instead, so it's actually kinda funny whenever they say it, for example: "Sign the fookin' paper!" Everyone should see this film!This wonderful story filmed with excellent and completely believable characters is a must see. It is exciting and embarrassingly real. Everyone should be forced to see it as it shows man at his terrifyingly worst, that of knowing he is superior with no thought whatsoever. AmazingA lot of people have been saying, "it's not that great" or "it's discussing" but you obviously aren't looking at how amazing this movie really is. Not only is it made beautifully, the graphics and animation are on point and the actors make it seem like a real documentary, like all this actually happened. AmazingThis movie is a great step forward in the sci-fi genre. The documentary-like storytelling of it was fresh, and the plot was full of tension and a few comedic breaks from all of the action. Although after he escapes from the lab, the cameras are somehow still following him, which made no sense to me. It was only a minor hiccup and is omittable. OkThis movie was ok. Did found it to be about 20 minutes to long. I found myself just wanting it to end in the last 20 minutes. I thought the movie was good for the first hour or so and the allans looked good. District 9This was one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time. As a Sci-Fi person, I thought the write up made it sound really interesting and all the reviews were glowing so I was looking forward to it. Within 30 minutes I was bored out of my mind.
