Rarely can a film penetrate the glamorous surface of rock legends. It Might Get Loud tells the personal stories, in their own words, of three generations of electric guitar virtuosos – The Edge (U2), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), and Jack White (The White Stripes). It reveals how each developed his unique sound and style of playing favorite instruments, guitars both found and invented. Concentrating on the artist's musical rebellion, traveling with him to influential locations, provoking rare discussion as to how and why he writes and plays, this film lets you witness intimate moments and hear new music from each artist. The movie revolves around a day when Jimmy Page, Jack White, and The Edge first met and sat down together to share their stories, teach and play.
A documentary on the electric guitar from the point of view of three significant rock musicians: the Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack White.

Great movie - but question about controls?I've seen this movie before - highly recommend it. I decided to buy it on iTunes to be able to watch it any time. For the movie itself, my review is - go into it expecting intertwined biographies of these three men, who represent different styles and generations but have more in common than is immediately apparent. Don't expect a concert video or an hourlong jam session or you will be disappointed. But here's my specific question/concern about buying it on iTunes ... how do I watch the movie?! When Ii start the movie, I get a menu that takes over the iTunes screen. One option is Play. When I click that, I can hear the movie's audio, but I still only see the menu. If I go into chapters and launch one chapter at a time, same thing, I hear that chapter's audio but I don't know how to watch it instead of staring at the menu. If I go full screen, the menu just gets bigger. If I click the X near the upper left of the iTunes window, the movie continues playing while I'm back in the regular iTunes menu system. I'm in the latest version of iTunes and just downloaded the movie today - where is the secret button to actually be able to see the movie? And assuming it's easy once I find the button (I might even feel a bit dense if it's sort of obvious) - Sony, shouldn't this be drop-dead simple?.Score: 4/5
AmazingThis movie spread through Zeppelin through jack white...I love the Edge, the only thing missing was Eddie Van Halen. Not a huge (but good/great) fan of Van Halen. However Eddie was and is extremely influential. I wondered if Edward was invited, but refused. Love this movie. I have watched it several times. I grew up with knowing Zeppelin along with The Doors, Jimi Hendrix....yadda yadda.... I was born in 69, so was not of age at the time. Although, how can one compare to uncontrolled music like that.....great to grow up with. Enjoyed U2 for years during my coming of age and respect them, don't love their music so much now..... However, War and unforgettable fire....unbelievable albums and still listen to today. Jack White.....my hats off to you brother. I can't stop listening to the White Stripes!!!!!!! So basic, yet so incredibly complex and inventive and taking simplicity that was done so well so many times to and you and Meg took it to an incredible new level. You are amazing. You will go down on the rock and roll history books like Zeppelin. People will catch up and realize how influential you are like Zeppelin. My favorite band is Tool by far. However, I love my rock blues as well. Just would have been way cool to see Edward Van Halen in this movie as well since we are spreading through the decades. I'm really not complaining because I will probably watch this movie many more times. Just love music..Score: 5/5
The Biggest ThreeThree of the greatest guitarists of all time get together to talk about their instrument. How can you get any better than that? This is an engrossing and inspiring documentary that will probably mean more to musicians and music lovers than the casual audience. I found this amusing: the film is rated PG for brief language, smoking, and thematic content, with each guitarist supplying one element. Page provides the the language (a sole s-word near the credits), White smokes a cigarette a couple of times, and images of Dublin's bloody Sunday accompanies the Edge's recollection of the "War" album..Score: 5/5

Worth it for the clips of JimmyIt is fascinating listening to Jimmy Page talk about his work and watching him play. However, the footage of the Edge and Jack White was boring and of little interest. These two guys had no business being in this film with Jimmy Page. It would have made much more sense to include Jeff Beck and or Clapton; or to just make the film exclusivly about Page. The Edge in particular was clearly outclassed as a musician and perhaps was included for comic relief. For example, with a straight face he talks about his artistic process of eliminating notes from a chord to simplify and condense his sound. He's playing power chords! And at one point in the film Jimmy smirks at the Edge and asks him a couple of times if he's sure about the key signature he's playing in. I found it hilarious, but still would have preferred not having him in the film. It is worth watching for the clips of Jimmy alone though..Score: 3/5

The most interesting part for me was when The Edge was playing what sounded like a great groove, then he took off all the effects and he was playing three basic chords real slow. Worth The WeightThis movie was both entertaining and inspiring. The music was excellent and it did get loud on occasion, but more important was how Jack, The Edge, and Jimmy came to this point with their music. I enjoyed listening to their stories. In the end, watching and hearing all three playing The Weight was certainly worth the cost of the movie. I had hoped that it was recorded for purchase. That would have brought it a 5-star rating..Score: 4/5

Fascinating for its niche...As a fan of U2, Led Zeppelin, and The White Stripes, I found this very interesting and entertaining. I was surprised, however, how much the movie centered on the history of Page, White, and the Edge and their bands, rather than the more general history of the guitar that I was expecting. I was also disappointed that they didn't show the three of them together more. On the whole, however, I found the movie very interesting and informative. It mostly centers around the stories of Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack White, how they grew up, fell in love with music and guitars, and their tise to fame. It also shows the three of them meeting together, talking about their music, sharing techniques, etc. It was cool to see them together and hear their histories, and I thought it was a really well done documentary, but I think it's more of a "rental", as it's not much different from the kind of thing you can see on TV..Score: 4/5
Great ConceptThis well produced film documents the creative process of 3 extrorninary musicians. Page looks at peace and shows that he is still one of the best in the business. Guitar HerosAll in all i enjoyed the movie...but it fell short of my expectations. There were times when my spine tingled as the 3 of them broke into a jam...only to cut it way too short! They didn't let loose as i expected...only for a grief moment here and there. You could almost see the egos and lips being tested as each played and displayed their interpretations. Individually their conversations were interesting regarding their history and past but it got a bit long in places where straight up jamming would have filled the void. I'd be curious to hear each of their view of the movie after watching? I think each man should have travelled to see each story being filmed to add their perspective of what would be on the film? It Might Get LoudSincere tribute to the three guitarists. All three players approach the guitar from different perspectives but share a common passion for music. From a guitar playing point of view the performances are not a a very high level, certainly in the case of Jimmy Page and the Edge they are shown to best effect in the context of their performances with their famous groups.
