Innovative director Spike Jonze collaborates with celebrated author Maurice Sendak to bring one of the most beloved books of all time to the big screen in "Where the Wild Things Are," a classic story about childhood and the places we go to figure out the world we live in. The film tells the story of Max, a rambunctious and sensitive boy who feels misunderstood at home and escapes to where the Wild Things are. Max lands on an island where he meets mysterious and strange creatures whose emotions are as wild and unpredictable as their actions. The Wild Things desperately long for a leader to guide them, just as Max longs for a kingdom to rule. When Max is crowned king, he promises to create a place where everyone will be happy. Max soon finds, though, that ruling his kingdom is not so easy and his relationships there prove to be more complicated than he originally thought.
Max imagines running away from his mom and sailing to a far-off land where large talking beasts—Ira, Carol, Douglas, the Bull, Judith and Alexander—crown him as their king, play rumpus, build forts and discover secret hideaways.

This is real filmThis is a brilliant. movie. It will make you sob. Jonze takes on some of the most complicated emotions and uses them to their full force. It's also very heart warming and sad. The acting is superb. Even the giant Wild Things are amazing..Score: 5/5
Probably "cool" if you're a soft, entitled suburbaniteVisually striking at times and technically well-made, but Jonze and crew have unfortunately misappropriated this amazing, magical kids classic to comment on the harsh reality of abusive relationships and dysfunctional families. Which all might seem "really cool and edgy" if you've lived a soft, entitled suburban life, but if you're rather looking for an evening of escape, you won't find it here. Definitely NOT for kids. I only hope that some years from now, after the bad taste of this one fades, someone with a sense of magic and fun will take another crack at Wild Things..Score: 2/5

Lifeless, boring and uninspiredI didn't really care for this movie at all. It's boring and there's not any creative genius or imagination to be found to any degree at all. Regardless of all the development over the years, there are a number of directors out there who could have made much more of this. With such lifeless flops as Three Kings and Being John Malkovich, WTWTA fits right in..Score: 2/5

Hard 2 SayThis movie was really horribe, for the storyline. We all know that most kids really couldn't care and want to see them on the screen, not really a movie for mature adults. Also had a very poor and confuesing ending, very unbelieveable. Other than that, as I said most kids would be in love with the movie, one good thing about this was the acting pretty good. Where the wild things areMy children (girls ages 8 & 11) hated this movie. It is nothing like my childrens beloved book. Instead of Max being sent to his room and having a dream in the safety of his room, he runs out of his home and into a local forest. As a mother, I was shocked that movie would advocate that children run away from home!.Score: 1/5

Needs an Open Mind.This movie requires an open mind. If you're looking for a comforting Disney classic of sorts, you're not going to find it here. I find you're outlook on the movie may actually depend on your mood. You may be touched by some of the more dramatic, intense moments, or you might just burst out laughing! All the characters are very different from the norm and you may find it difficult to let these large, hairy beasts into your heart. I could not find a single flaw in the entire movie's visuals, but found them breathtaking. The scenery alone sells this one. Soundtrack is interesting and fits in like two puzzle pieces; the movie would not be the same without it's unique sound. Very artistic and makes of a well spent two hours..Score: 5/5
Not What I Expected...Horrible! Max is a psychotic brat with Turrets. Neither Max nor the other characters are likeable let alone loveable. I polled exiting theatre patrons and the most common comment: "Pathetic!" Unless you grew up with the tale and loved it, save your money..Score: 1/5
