During the U.S.-led occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller and his team of Army inspectors are dispatched to find weapons of mass destruction believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Rocketing from one booby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men search for deadly chemical agents but stumble instead upon an elaborate cover-up that threatens to invert the purpose of their mission.

Doch die Fährte führt in eine Sackgasse: Sie stoßen nur auf Sprengfallen. Nach und nach stellt Roy Miller mit sein Team fest, dass sie nur Marionetten in einer ausgefeilten Verschwörung sind.
Český Ocitáme se na tom nejnebezpečnějším místě na světě, na horké půdě Iráku, krátce po svržení režimu Saddáma Husajna. Jedním z nešťastníků, kteří mají pomoci postavit tuto zemi na nohy, je i velitel americké armády Roy Miller. Jeho jednotka má za úkol pátrat po zbraních hromadného ničení (jinak hlavní zámince ke svržení Saddámovy krutovlády) a zároveň po pohlavárech bývalého režimu, označených žolíkovými kartami. Miller a jeho muži se ocitli v pekle, kde nebezpečí číhá na každém kroku. Není tu nikdo, komu by se dalo věřit, což k jejich smůle platí i o lidech, kteří by měli hrát za jejich tým. Čím hlouběji totiž Miller proniká do tohoto blízkovýchodního chaosu, tím jasnější mu je, že tady „něco smrdí“. V Iráku zuří válka a vysoko nad ním komplikovaná zpravodajská hra, která může přinést zkázu tomu, kdo v ní bude ve finále tahat za kratší konec. Miller se v ní postupně stává čím dál důležitější figurou, která drží v ruce zásadní trumf – pravdu. A proto je třeba ji vyhodit.
