Newly arrived in Hong Kong, martial arts instructor Ip Man (Donnie Yen) encounters stiff opposition when he begins teaching the Wing Chun fighting style. But instead of bowing to his rivals' demands, he perseveres and retaliates with amazing speed and power. Inspired by Ip Man's life story, this martial arts sequel boasts impressive fight sequences and co-stars Lynn Hung, Simon Yam and Sammo Hung.

Having defeated the best fighters of the Imperial Japanese army in occupied Shanghai, Ip Man and his family settle in post-war Hong Kong. Struggling to make a living, Master Ip opens a kung fu school to bring his celebrated art of Wing Chun to the troubled youth of Hong Kong. His growing reputation soon brings challenges from powerful enemies, including pre-eminent Hung Gar master, Hung Quan.

SolidMaggie Lee of the Hollywood Reporter gives this film a good review, but chastised it for "crude nationalism". Well, that might be. I could also call it a borderline rip-off of Rocky IV. Sammo Hung's character and Apollo Creed: Crude nationalism on both counts. Ip Man and Rocky Balboa: Avenging their friends and defending the pride of their respective countries. Rocky and Ip Man wanting to throw in the towel for their doomed friends and Apollo and Sammo warning them not to. And a rousing, touching speech over the loudspeaker after the last match: Rocky and Ip Man both utilized. When we do it, it's patriotism. When the Chinese do it, it's crude nationalism. I love being an American and am not overtly in love with the People's Republic, but I don't like hypocrisy, either Anyway, that being said, this is an awesome film, better than the first. So bad compared to the first.The acting is so bad. Fights are way too dramatic. Sad to see this movie so poorly produced after seeing the first one, which was amazing. The translated voiceovers I really cannot stand. They’re terrible! I wish it was spoken in Chinese (or Cantonese, as its now in Hong Kong), like the first movie and included proper English subtitles.
