The tale of Jodorowsky and his Dune is a fascinating trip through creativity and imagination, a story about the relentless pursuit of a dream, and the necessity of art. In pre-production for over two years, the film was to star Jodorowsky's own 12-year-old son Brontis alongside Orson Welles, Mick Jagger, David Carradine and even Salvador Dali, set to a musical score by Pink Floyd and art-design by some of the most provocative talents of the era, including H.R. Giger and Jean 'Moebius' Giraud.
Shot in France, England, Switzerland and the United States, this documentary covers director Alejandro Jodorowsky (El Topo, Holy Mountain, Santa Sangre) and his 1974 Quixotic attempt to adapt the seminal sci-fi novel Dune into a feature film. After spending 2 years and millions of dollars, the massive undertaking eventually fell apart, but the artists Jodorowsky assembled for the legendary project continued to work together. This group of artists, or his “warriors” as Jodorowsky named them, went on to define modern sci-fi cinema with such films as Alien, Blade Runner, Star Wars and Total Recall.

The greatest movie never made? Yeah. I guess soWhat can a Layman say about this film that has not already been said? I guess I can only repeat what Refn says in the documentary about the film: ‘It’s Awesome’. However, this film deserves to get made. After watching the successful trilogy of Peter Jackson’s (who would be an incredibly appropriate director for this project) I think Dune (either the Herbert or Jodorowsky version) would work as a massive three-part epic movie trilogy, which is appropriate since the book is actually three smaller parts in one cover (Dune, Muad’Dib, and The Prophet). Also, if you are reading this, Mister Jodorowsky. Please publish your film book on Dune! That book needs to be preserved and distributed to the world! Please!.Score: 5/5
Great Attempt!Once in a while comes out a documentary on frustrated attempt to shoot a movie that "will change everything", or at least will stick in our minds for a long time to come. Particularly I found this documentary to be very, very amusing! Jodorowsky was somewhat way ahead of his time on his purpose to shoot “Dune”. I can’t even imagine what would it be, if he had succeeded. With Orson Welles, Salvador Dalí and Mick Jagger? And soundtrack by Pink Floyd? Whoa!… This documentary I’d put side by side to the one about the attempt of Terry Gilliam on his “Lost In La Mancha”..Score: 4/5

14.99 ?!?!?!!!!Enough time has passed for this to be a rental. 15.00 on here, 40.00 for the bluray, so far Jodorowsky has'nt made a penny off me..Score: 1/5
SadI saw this in the theater and walked out. The subject of the documentary is a childish narcissist. Somehow I don't think the film makers grasped that. Hollywood execs did though and that's why the film never got made. Here's a quote from the movie: "I raped Frank Herbert!" - he gleefully says describing how he altered Herbert's storyline. Also, insanely, and in a deeply narcissistic way, he had his own son trained for 6 hours everyday for two years to try and turn him into the main character of the movie. It's just really sad..Score: 1/5
YikesA gnarled, psychotic acid freak just yammering on and on about his story board sketches. Art sketches are not interesting to me when it costs 13 bucks to watch. Movies that are fully imagined and executed are more worth the money..Score: 1/5

Not much to look atI was thinkin' there'd be more to look at. Turns out they never shot an inch of film. Jodorowsky shows you the outside of his giant storyboard book, runs his paws all over it, tells you about all the juicy art inside...Yeah, but then he barely cracks it. So, if you see this thing, be prepared for an evening of Jodorowsky talkin' at you. There's worse things..Score: 3/5
