New series, new face(s)Been watching Doctor Who for the past 4 years (and caught up with many of the previous seasons after the reboot). I have been looking forward to this new Doctor, and I must say, overall good job Team Tardis, Fam or whichever name you settle on. The weaker episodes had issues with the pacing ("Ghost Monument" for example) or were an imbalanced mashup of ideas/genres/messages (umm, "Witchfinders"). Given the number of friends that are travelling with the Doctor, not everyone had something meaningful to do in each episode. But this was more than set off by episodes like "Kerblam" or "It takes you away" which hit all the right buttons in terms of scare factor, emotional punches or bizzare plot twists, along with a handful of very funny moments (e.g. Yaz's mum enquiring about her daughter's relationship with the Doctor in "Arachnids in the UK"). Just one thing, don't make the Doctor too perfect, i.e. lose all her edge... She may have overcome one of her biggest traumas in "The Day of the Doctor", but I'm sure there are many more things that weigh heavily on her mind / conscience. Hope, we will explore this side of hers a bit more in Season 12..Score: 5/5

Joining the politial hysteriaI've been a fan for decades, went to Cardiff etc. and do like Jodie, but this season falls for cheap political shots and displays shameful ignorance of US history (perhaps the writers need to read about Claudette Colvin). Amazed by the "Long-time Dr. Who-watcher" ReviewsI've been seeing this fairly consistently across social media, etc. So many so called "Long-time Doctor Who watchers" complaining about the writing and stories in this season. They are both wrong about the writing, and their basic premise of the history of the show. The shows writing is great, and the stories offer good role-models and make you think about interesting, challenging messages. Dr. Who has always been about morality, doing what is right, and fighting for equality. People that are complaining that the show has too much social commentary seem to be unaware that Dr. Who (and really all good sci-fi) has always been a vehicle for exploring the present. It seems like people have complained the most about "Rosa", which I really don't understand. Does anyone really think that an episode that condemns racism is bad. Especially when that story tries to ground in message in actualy historical events. It seems like certain watchers may be unhappy with actually being forced to think about current and recent events. As for the writing and characters, I love the new Doctor. She is very likable. Upbeat. Resourceful. Intelligent. Everything I would want for a role model. The dynamics between the new group is fun. Very "Box Car Children"-ish. I do agree that character development is a little hard with three companions, but I feel like the writers have pretty good paths for each member of the cast. So, yes, if you are looking for a mindless hour of television, go watch Transformers or something like that. If you are looking for good role-models and stories that are willing to attack difficult topics, this latest season of Dr. Who delivers..Score: 5/5
Excuse You Rosa Haters! I â€ïž Rosa! The main idea of âRosaâ is exactly what Doctor Who was originally meant to be about! Not interfering. Witnessing events in history! Verity Lambert created Doctor Who to TEACH children about the past. That was Lambertâs intention when she created Doctor Who in 1963. When it first came out, The Doctor and his friends explore different events in history and witness them. Even though there was a threat, the Doctor did everything he could to make sure the event in the timeline stays on track! In âRosa,â when Graham asked, âAre we supposed to help her?â and the Doctor replied, âNo. Weâre supposed to not help this time...â I cried. They were tears of joy because I thought Mr. Chibnall was going in that original direction for Doctor Who! Rosa will be my all-time favorite episode! Doctor DireA new series, a new Doctor, a new production team and direction. Sadly, itâs awful. The new Doctor isnât very good and neither are the scripts. The production is glossy and slick but donât expect thrills and spills. Instead itâs pedestrian, bland and curiously boring. The new Doctor barely registers and seems to be channeling David Tennant. The scripts are very weak and the villains match the weakness of the new Doctor. Episode one has an evil tooth fairy, episode two some sentient rags, episode three a humanoid racist with a really dumb plan, episode four ups the game with asthmatic spiders and a Donald Trump rip-off. For the most part this is a curiously soulless and tedious version of Who. Not recommended. Update 9 weeks in now. What have they done? The Doctor is am-dram awful. The scripts horribly bad. The villains non existent. The PC flag waving endless. A pale imitation of a once great show. If you have to buy one episode to prove this buy episode 9.
