What was this? After an ok first episode, we steadily go downhill. It is very boring. What was a fun, adventure show has become a preachy, after-school special. Jodie had potential but she doesnât really develop as a character of her own. She borrows way too much from the Tennant and Smith Doctors in her performance. The companions are just there, very lackluster. Graham is the only one that feels real. Unfortunately, they act as yes men and just follow the Doctor around. No questioning or challenging a character who has always dabbled in a greyish area, morality-wise. The scripts are not good overall, but for me, the biggest disappointment is just the utter boredom and uninterest this series has inspired in me after loving this show so much. Trip down memory laneI've been watching Doctor Who since I was a kid in the late 70's/80's and I'm just really enjoying the ensemble cast like we had in the original series run. I think the broader perspective gives the situations more excitement and better character development. And I'm really enjoying Whittaker's take on the Doctor. A little bit of 10's timing and compassion, a little bit of 5's sass and fashion sense. Definitely worth a view, particularly if you're coming back to the series..Score: 5/5
Thirteen = Brilliant!! Writing = Ehh.After years of people telling me I needed to try out Doctor Who, I finally decided to give it a go. Why? Because of this new series. I was intrigued to see if a show 50+ years running could successfully genderbend its main character while still keeping true to the heart of the character and the show itself. The Doctor has become an icon for geeks everywhere, and as a huge Star Wars, Tolkien, and general sci-fi/fantasy nerd, I have to appreciate that. Series 11 seemed like a great jumping-on join for a noob to get her start in the Whoniverse. I was absolutely right. I fell in love with Jodie Whittakerâs version of the Doctor almost immediately - her quirky mannerisms (and especially facial expressions) remind me somewhat of Martin Freemanâs Bilbo Baggins from The Hobbit films. She instantly captured everything I had always thought the Doctor was supposed to represent. The wisdom, compassion, strength, and age, all wrapped up in a bundle of energy and excitement over the wonders of the universe. I loved it all and couldnât figure out why so many fanboys were hating. After finishing this series, I went back to series 1, with the introduction of the Ninth Doctor. Iâve been working my way through ever since. And now Iâm beginning to understand why many were underwhelmed with series 11. Donât get me wrong, I still absolutely love Thirteen. Iâm still fond of Yaz, Ryan, and Graham. And there are many moments in this series that are downright awesome. But in comparison to past series, the writing is honestly pretty... ehhhh. Plots are fairly simple and predictable, and none of the characters really develop a ton. Besides, I think Jodie could achieve SO much more with the character if the writers and directors would give her half the chance. Let the Doctor finally get tired of having to stand by while the innocent are torn down, let her memories of past battles and loves and losses shine through for a few moments, let her new companions hear stories of those who came before. Let her somehow encounter a shadow from her past, whether it be an old companion, enemy, or location, and the true ancientness of the Doctor be glimpsed again. I donât want to doubt that the writers will clue in for series 12. I really do believe that awesome things are coming. I just hope that the writers realize how and why this series isnât all Doctor Who could be - not because of the actors, or the characters, and especially not because of the gender change. But because itâs capable of far more than itâs currently being given. Believe in your characters and fans, BBC. Donât water it down for us â give us the epicness this show and the first female Doctor deserve..Score: 4/5
New series, new face(s)Been watching Doctor Who for the past 4 years (and caught up with many of the previous seasons after the reboot). I have been looking forward to this new Doctor, and I must say, overall good job Team Tardis, Fam or whichever name you settle on. The weaker episodes had issues with the pacing ("Ghost Monument" for example) or were an imbalanced mashup of ideas/genres/messages (umm, "Witchfinders"). Given the number of friends that are travelling with the Doctor, not everyone had something meaningful to do in each episode. But this was more than set off by episodes like "Kerblam" or "It takes you away" which hit all the right buttons in terms of scare factor, emotional punches or bizzare plot twists, along with a handful of very funny moments (e.g. Yaz's mum enquiring about her daughter's relationship with the Doctor in "Arachnids in the UK"). Just one thing, don't make the Doctor too perfect, i.e. lose all her edge... She may have overcome one of her biggest traumas in "The Day of the Doctor", but I'm sure there are many more things that weigh heavily on her mind / conscience. Hope, we will explore this side of hers a bit more in Season 12..Score: 5/5

Change shoudl be good but...You can't change too much at once: female Dr, three companions, no previous foes, historical events. That's a lot of changes for a show. It disconnectes it from its roots. Usually, it is called a reboot, but this time it is not. At the end, what you get is not Dr Who but a different show dealing with historical events. The problem is that it's a boring show, poorly written and badly played. Most of the characteres are hollow and you don't reallt care for any of the "companions". Rosa, Demons of the Punjab, and Kerblam are all great episodes and the main cast are all very strong throughout. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how good the writing as been and has tackled some difficult issues and I have enjoyed the historical episodes. I am aware that some people seem to think that is political correctness gone mad, but I am not sure where these people are coming from. Racism, fanaticism, death of a loved one; these are all issues that people face, addressing them is not political correctness gone made, it is facing the reality of life. There are those that will never like the new show, and that is simply because they cannot accept a female doctor. An alien that can regenerate, a time machine that is bigger on the teh inside than the outside, but a female Doctor, that is just too much. That is just their choice.
