Good, but problematic.The show follows multiple plot-lines. It's more of a Bauer-family story than a Jack Bauer story, and this causes problems. Whenever I was watching the mother or daughter, I continually found myself wanting the story to back to Jack (which was well-done and amazingly acted with Sutherland). The other plot lines seemed annoying and then unrealistically tied to the main plot. If future seasons can get rid of the seemingly contrived family drama, then the show has real potential later on. Now watching the beginnings of season 2..Score: 3/5

Fantastic show, very entertaining, but predictable.Season 1 of 24 is an exciting, action-packed show that will make you buy episode after episode after episode. Although it is exciting, the show is very predictable. It seems that the same thing happens to kimberly and terry throughout the season. More Holes than Swiss Cheese but...Kiefer Sutherland is excellent. One star. Most of the cast is great and it's fun to see Dennis Hopper, Jon Voight and a few other familiar faces. Second star. It kept me interested and had some good thrills. Third star. But... The character of Kim Bauer is one of the most annoying I've ever seen on TV. And her mother's not much better. Why does this show have so many annoying female characters? So no fourth star. And finally: why so many holes? Are we really to believe that Govt. agents have no common sense. I can suspend my disbelief if the show gives me reason to (humour being a good reason) but too often I was wondering how the writers expect audiences to believe the dumb moves some of the characters make. And sometimes there were such huge holes in the plot you could drive a fully armoured Hummer through them. I think audiences expect more intelligent plots these days. No fifth star. Overall: better than many Hollywood productions but it falls short of being the great show it could've been. And Season 1 is supposed to be one of the best seasons of 24. Perhaps I'll watch a later season to see if they worked out the wrinkles. And perhaps to enjoy more of Kiefer Sutherland's acting..Score: 3/5

HD version loses A LOT of image areaBE WARNED if you are buying the HD version. About 10% of the height and 10% of the width has been cropped out compared to the standard quality version. Lots is lost, it is such a downgrade when you are supposedly getting an upgrade. Don't stand for this. Great show though, but the cropping for HD is not on..Score: 2/5

Tries too Hard - Hero's act StupidNice idea but to pad it out they keep making the main characters constantly do the wrong things. It gets to you after a while, in fairness Darwin does kick in, when they don't look crossing the road they do get run over. But you can start predicting their actions by thinking about what's the most stupid thing they could they do and Wow they do it! Try vintage TV series like "edge of darkness" you won't predict what's going to happen in that. Good production values and some of the acting is good but flawed..Score: 2/5

Just plain fun!I remember being shown the recording of the first episode of this show at a friends house back when it first aired on British TV on channel four, before Sky took over. I was instanly hooked! With all its twists and turns it is a fantastic show and series 1 is arguably the best just because it was a new idea at the time. Every character is amazingly realized and each has their own agenda and motivations, the revelations of which are something to behold towards the end of the story. Like other people on here, my advice is the buy the DVD release at much cheaper rates. However, and I've said this before, many, many times here and elsewhere: 1. The iTunes price is only decided by Apple in part, more control on this is exerted by the film studios who are charging Apple extortionate rates to sell their material on the Music Store. 2. The TV studios also set the price of the DVD's sold in shops. 3. If the music store price was lower than the DVD price, it would severely impact DVD sales, just as the low prices for digitally downloaded music have actually closed high street record shops. The studios would then be at Apple's mercy! 4. Do you really believe that Apple, or any other business that is as successful, is in the habit of deliberately pricing themselves out of the market? So please, stop being so short sighted and blindly engaging in "Apple Bashing". Care to join me in a game of "Warner Bros Bashing" instead?.Score: 5/5
