While Kate Kane’s friends and family hold on to hope that she may still be found, a homeless 25-year-old named Ryan Wilder (series star Javicia Leslie) stumbles upon the Batsuit. Focused on no longer being a victim, Ryan takes the suit to use as armor and goes rogue in the streets of Gotham, taking out various members of a new gang called the False Face Society. Meanwhile, both Jacob Kane (series star Dougray Scott) and Luke Fox (series star Camrus Johnson) launch searches for Kate; Mary Hamilton (series star Nicole Kang) grapples with losing yet another family member, Sophie Moore (series star Meagan Tandy) struggles with things left unsaid to her first love, and Alice (series star Rachel Skarsten) is furious that someone got to Kate before she could exact her revenge. At the same time, “Bruce Wayne” (guest star Warren Christie) returns under the pretense of searching for Kate, but the truth is he wants his suit back and it becomes the clash of imposters as “Batwoman” and “Bruce” square off in the action-packed season premier..

Ryan wilder is here to stayI’ll be honest, i didn’t think this show could get much worse after that first season. then they announced ruby rose was leaving, and my hopes for this show were gone. to say i was wrong is an understatement. javicia leslie took this role and created a character who has so many complexities to her it’s beautiful. whereas rose’s performance constantly fell flat, leslie’s remains complex and full of personality. think of it as an onion. every episode leslie peels another layer to that onion, showing a new side to her. she’s not perfect, but she embraces the fact that she’s not. she’s non-judging, and makes decisions following a code of honor and love for people throughout her city. having been a character not seen in the dc comics, there was a lot of pressure to build a superhero origin not done before. this show is beautiful in that we are watching her origin unfold. none of us know where this is going, and that’s the fun of it. i joined this show for the laughs and to make fun. i stayed because of javicia leslie and the character that she is building from the ground up. yes, there’s a lot of hate out there for this show. yes, i see where they are coming from. but having given this show an honest chance, i’ve seen the potential this show has. in addition, i’ve seen the risks the show runners are willing to take to tell a new, darker story. i don’t know if the show will ever get past all the hate. if there was something i could do to convince people more, i would. but for now here’s my review..Score: 5/5
