Great PerformancesThe cast did a great job portraying members of a struggling rust belt town. I found it a bit tough to root for some of the characters early on, but I’m glad I stuck with it. Character development is great and as expected Kate Winslet is brilliant and raw. Jean Smart and Susie Bacon really stood out too..Score: 5/5
PhenomenalA never better Kate Winslet in a contemporary, real world setting, role and family that is both modern and dysfunctional! The acting, script and direction are top tier, and is due in no small part to Kate Winslet taking on off-camera responsibilities to those in front of the lens. Every scene especially those without dialogue are as important as those which are dialogue heavy. With Eastown and its weather playing important backdrops whilst reflecting the characters emotional state. A truly phenomenal achievement which I would recommend for either a first or repeat viewing..Score: 5/5

Exceptional murder thrillerA really good cop thriller in a small town location we’ve never been before. Much has already been written about the location, south-eastern Pennsylvania, where a particular accent, the ‘Delco’ prevails. Kate Winslet, with her fastidious approach to accents, apparently (I wouldn’t know, not being from there) gets it spot on. The storyline follows a trail of a murdered young woman in a close-knit community, where a local detective, with all the usual social and domestic travails, takes the case on. Winslet is phenomenal. Is there anyone out there that can act like her? She has an innate ability to convey emotion in her face, without all of the gurning you get from some actors (though not in this programme - all of the leads are great - Jean Smart as Winslet’s hard-bitten mother, and Julianne Nicholson is top banana as a troubled housewife and mother. I can’t recall any bum performances here). I confess to liking Kate Winslet’s varied performances over the years, but she has risen to a new level here. Outstanding..Score: 5/5
