Come back when Chibnallâs goneThere are some highlights here (eps 2 and 4), but only in comparison to the horrendous quality of the rest. Plots are endlessly set up and their payoffs make clear they didnât matter. Far too many characters rush around, and their actions ultimately donât matter either. The Doctor spends more time having the plot explained to her, and is given astonishingly little agency. The lore reveals continue to be abysmal. Episode 1 is all set up, 2 is fine, 3 is an âambitiousâ (in the way The Phantom Menace is ambitious) bore, 4 is actually solid (itâs the one another writer got to work on), 5 is filler chaff and 6, as of this writing, isnât out on iTunes yet (despite it having aired on two days ago!). Great New Series for this Doctor! Some of the early scripts for this doctor were not great, this goes for every doctor that has ever graced the screen. I think Matt Smith had the best scripts of all of them but now, this season, I think our current doctor has truly shown just how good she is when given much better plots. I thoroughly enjoyed Flux and I'm looking forward to the next installment of the season which, apparently, brings back the Sea Devils!! I didn't expect them to revive these creatures but I'm glad they did. The Sea Devils were the scariest of the monsters when I was a kid! Keep up with the excellent stories!.Score: 5/5

No continuity, crappy writingThe series attempts to have a season-long plot arc, like with Matt Smithâs era, but falls incredibly short and fails to provide any background, any context, and any finish or closure. All in all itâs terribly written, and the acting is mediocre at best.Score: 1/5

ShockingThe special effects were good but that doesnât make up for a script written in crayon where nothing has consequences, reasons or any character development. Better things are being scribbled in notebooks by kids the length and breadth of the country. Just rubbishI feel sorry for Jodie. Sheâs done her best with the drivel sheâs been given. Itâs hard for her. Sheâll probably go down as the least popular Doctor in history, and thatâs nothing to do with the fact that sheâs a woman and everything to do with just how terrible the writing is. Mild spoilers for previous seasons as an example: the writing goes out of its way to show you that racism and colonialism is bad (obviously!) and then the next episode the Doctor is weaponising the Masterâs race against him. Or, mild spoilers for this season: one episode the Doctor is like âhey they were retreating, donât blow up those ships!â And the next episode the Doctor literally commits genocide without blinking an eyelid. A brilliant start to the series (Ep 3 Update)Chapter One: Doctor Who: Flux (or series 13) begins with The Halloween Apocalypse. The episode starts with us thrown right into the adventure. Itâs full of energy and slows down for some really haunting sequences. As itâs chapter one of a six-part story, the episode ends on a cliffhanger. From the trailers, it looks like thereâs a lot more of the story to come! Chapter Two: Flux continues itâs winning streak with another great episode. The War of the Sontarans show the titular enemies of The Doctor at their most evil. The story is intriguing with stellar performances all around. The cliffhanger leaves audiences excited for next-week! Chapter Three: The third episode of âDoctor Who: Fluxâ is âOnce, Upon Timeâ. A delightful mixture of five stories in one: Vinder, Yaz, The Doctor, Dan and Bel. This one seems to rely on CGI more than previous episodes, possibly because travel restrictions during filming might have prevented the usual globe-hopping location filming. However, itâs a great episode that may require a couple of re-watches to fully understand how the story fits together. Itâs much faster paced compared to episode two and builds on more of the Flux mystery and that of the Divison. Thereâs a few great moments from some recurring characters too.
