Probably one of the best shows on TVInitially was skeptical because this is an adaptation of a video game and past adaptations have been bad. The best phrase to describe this is “horrifying, yet beautiful.” This show takes it to a whole other level, it’s INTENSE, being a apocalyptic horror-survival show, sticking to the source material where applicable, adapting where they need to, and deviating to further develop the characters or story (often in unexpected ways). Going on the premise of the unconditional love between a parent and child, the story shows how far a parent is willing to go and the things they will do for who they love. The continuity of the story is tight, events in the last episode reference what happened in the first ones, the characters are nuanced & complex, just like real life, & the cinematography and VFC are awesome (mostly, with a couple of missteps). Probably as equally profound is the podcast hosted by Troy Baker who plays Joel In the video game who interviews the game creator Neil Druckmann & show runner Craig Mazin (who did the Hangover sequels, Scary Movie sequels, and a small show called Chernobyl). Very deep insight into human nature (probably b/c Mazin has a degree in psychology) and delves deep into the characters, filling in the blanks from the episode because maybe you were too traumatized to notice..Score: 5/5

It can’t be for nothingFor the uninitiated this series is based on a 2013 video game of the same name. It is one of the most faithful adaptations of a video game put to film. As a fan of the game I can tell you that they hit all of the major themes and plot points of the story. They did change a few minor things from the game, but I found the changes felt natural because what works in a game won’t necessarily work on film. If you haven’t played the game you get the full story and for fans of the game you get some brilliant additions integrated into the story that just add to the lore. The cast are absolutely brilliant. Everyone nails their character and adds another layer to the already great characters. The infected look amazing and are exactly what you expect to see. Funny enough the theme of the story is love. It can be beautiful and dangerous. They nailed it. Treat yourself to this..Score: 5/5
Freakin' Awesome Show! HBO Great adaptation of a video game.A big thank you to HBO for releasing this amazing TV show on iTunes so quickly. Sometimes greats shows like "The Last of Us" never make it to iTunes. I was never able to watch the series when it aired and have only watched the first episode and I have to say... WOW! what a way to start a series. I just wanted to point out that in episode 01 "When You're Lost in the Darkness" there is a hiccup/stutter in the video between 30:39 - 30:41. For me it's not a game changer, but it was noticeable. I can't wait to sit down and binge watch the entire season this weekend. Update April 12, 2023: This is just a quick update to my post on March 17, 2023 regarding the hiccup/stutter at 30:39-30:41 of episode 1. I downloaded the episode again and it has been fixed. Amazing showIt’s a great show that will make you care about the characters and then break your heart.
