On a bright May morning, 5,000 sailors and Marines bid farewell to their loved ones before the mammoth USS Nimitz pulls out of Coronado, California, and sets a course for Hawaii and beyond. Among the men and women who live and work on board are an airman who describes the ship as a small town; a pilot who considers the ship a powerful instrument of diplomacy; a sailor who questions "why we're fighting to defend someone else's freedom when we barely have our own"; a cook who dishes out 15,000 meals a day; and an airman who has just learned that his girlfriend is pregnant. A must see!!!I have a brother that is an officer in the Navy and the crew of "Carrier" made a stop on their carrier (Reagan). I must say, I see my brother in another light after watching this series. There is a huge difference in personalies between the enlisted guys and the officers, which is very evident thoughout the documentary. This is an absolute most see series..Score: 5/5
Dive Dive DiveAll I can say is. Thank God I was on a submarine. These guys and girls wine so much. We were full of men who were dedicated and professional. Surface Navy is full of babies. It is amazing the thing even floats with shipmates like that on board. Anytime we had a sailor not pulling their weight - they were drummed out. You know what I am saying is true. Because, ask any sub sailor. Anytime you were threaten with a major punishment it was always the same - "we will send you to the surface fleet." It has to be bad if our punishment is to be with them. One example; Chiefs eat with E6 and below. Field day is everyone. There are very few E-3 and below on board. I was E-4 before I saw a sub. This was a great show to watch. And to use to warn anyone - if you join the Fleet - go subs..Score: 5/5

AmazingMy Commander showed this series to my NJROTC class this week. I wasn't expecting it to be as riveting and nail biting as it was. It gave me an idea of what I would be going into if I were to join the Navy. I love it and I'm planning on buying the whole series..Score: 4/5
Carrier lifeIndeed this shows is real, it is a good representation of the life of a sailor on an aircraft carrier. Unfortunately/ Fortunately depending on the point of view, they did not take the worst carrier of the Navy where they would observed a lot more things. Unless of course PBS did not have the time or the will to explore more details...Also, i did not see any foreigner, that are in todays Navy and they are not all in Japan!!! A great showI loved watching this series. I had the honor of visiting the Nimitz for a family cruise in 2001. (My son in law was on the Nimitz at this time) I enjoyed that day very much. Watching the series let me relive that day, and understand the day to day life on a carrier. I am so proud of my son in law, and every other member of our armed services. Most of our inlisted are very young, and are given a lot of responsibility, and should be commended for their service..Score: 5/5

Telling it like it is.Every documentry on aircraft carriers focuses on the pilots, planes, and ship. When this film crew documented the crew and what it's like to live and work on an aircraft carrier, the Navy had to have wanted to destroy all the footage. Excellent story-tellingThis is an interesting series, with great stories on the individuals lives of sailors and pilots during a stress-filled Middle Eastern voyage (Iraq). Excellent cinematography. Images and sound really capture the grit, drama, excitement and boredom of life aboard an aircraft carrier.
