In the Season Three finale, a reticent Avon readies his troops for a seemingly endless war against Marlo. Meanwhile, as the detail works towards the top rungs of the Barksdale organization, McNulty reassesses his pursuit of Stringer Bell and the path he's chosen for himself. While Royce continues to grapple with Amsterdam, Burrell offers a deal to minimize the fallout, even as Colvin's idea becomes public knowledge. Carcetti's ambition becomes obvious to his friend and fellow councilman Tony Gray, even as Gray has disclosed his own political plans. Cutty struggles to keep his young boxers off the corners, as he and Fruit cross paths once again. Bubbles offers his view of the world, both as it is and as it once was..

12 of the finest hours produced for TVThis is one of the greatest seasons of the best show produced for television. The acting this season, especially by the actors portraying Stringer Bell, Avon Barksdale, and Bunny Colvin, is as good as you'll see anywhere. This was the season where "The Wire" truly left the description "cop show" behind forever. It's a reflection on the future of urban America. It's also the most absorbing, gripping, storytelling in any medium. Once introduced to "Hamsterdam," one is forced to think about things differently. Can't recommend highly enough.Score: 5/5
The Wire -- A fascinating and moving journeyI have never encountered a show that is better written or acted than the Wire. Warning -- it takes a while to get into because of the intricacy of the plot and the number of characters. Finely Crafted TelevisionWell, this is one very well made, considered and gripping television show. The impact that The Wire, and particularly this series, had on me as a viewer was powerful and i can't exactly put my finger on why. It may be the complex characters or quality of the production, insightful statements about modern urban life and the direct influence of politics, the subtlety/brutality of the story but I guess that it's the way these things are combined that makes it great. This show has muscle. The acting and casting must also play a big part- using relative unknowns and locals is pure genius and makes the show feel complete and not built around an actor. I know it's 'only telly' and there's no point in going on about it too much (although I could), but there's been few films that I've seen that I could be so totally positive about. The first two series are brilliant and also deserve 5*, but this one takes it just a bit further. i confess that I haven't seen the final two series yet, but was compelled to write on this one. If you can handle it, this show will totally absorb you and may actually make you want to write a review about it. You can get it (substantially cheaper) on DVD, it's worth keeping.
