Another Brilliant SeasonThe Doctor returns in Season 3 with more action, more romance, and more mystery, including the return of some old friends and old foes. This season may not be as good as the last, but that by no means makes it bad in any way, shape or form. A bad episode of Doctor Who is like a good episode of another show. The most wonderful thing about Doctor Who is that it's on all spectrums- in other words, the Sci-Fi show that it is, is so realistic and heartwarming as well as intense, scary, and exciting. Not a dull moment to be found anywhere. And talk about top notch writing (accepting a few clunker episodes). These writiers (Russell T Davies, Gareth Roberts, Helen Raynor, Chris Chibnall, Stephen Greenhorn, Paul Cornell, and the wonderful Stephen Moffatt) have done an amazing job this season and I can't wait for Season 4! This season starts off with a rough start after losing the amazing Billie Piper as Rose Tyler. We however, meet Martha Jones, a brilliant medical student who proves she has just as much bravery as the Doctor to save the day. While she may not be as great as Rose was, she's no substitute by any means and can hold well on her own. This is just a run-down on the episodes. There were a few clunkers, but mostly, towards the end especially, this was a strong season. 1. The Runaway Bride- the 2006 Christmas Special; this episode is a bit slow, but the enjoyable Catherine Tate livens things up after a glum Doctor loses Rose Tyler. Not as good as the Christmas Invasion, but still a pretty good, and pivotol, episode. 2. Smith and Jones- easily my favorite opener, Smith and Jones is fast paced, brilliant, and is a great introductory to the character of Martha Jones. 3. The Shakespeare Code- another great episode about Shakespeare and the three witches who helped inspire him about Hamlet while trying to take over the world and free their sisters. Brilliant episode! 4. Gridlock- not as good as the last episode, and a bit boring, but it is rather comical and serious at the end. Plus, some old faces return and the episode moves the overall plot along quiet well. 5. Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks- the first two-parter and the first clunker. The story begins interestingly but the second part is all over the place and sags considerably, and the fact the Daleks are back again didn't truly help it's cause. Not God awful but far from amazing. 6. The Lazarus Experiment- another clunker. It's really slow and boring, and has a conventential sci-fi plot seen everywhere with a big bad monster supposedly supposed to be scary. 7. 42- the worst episode of the season- but that doesn't mean you shouldn't watch it. It's fast paced, but honestly we've seen this story again several other places. 8. Human Nature/Family of Blood- this is the best episode so far. The first part is a bit slow, but the ante is kicked up tenfold in the second part and the whole result is truly masterful. Easily the darkest episode so far in the season, but also one of the best. 9. Blink- this is the single-handedly greatest episode in the season and maybe the series. Although the Doctor and Martha aren't in it much, it's masterfully written by Moffatt and has won several awards. Plus, the villians are truly realistic and very frightening. Truly the best! 10. Utopia- another strong episode featuring the return of a familiar villian and friend. 11. The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords- the first part begins brilliantly but the second part severley hurts the story and is VERY cheesey, but far from the worst episode this season. Despite this, it's still an enjoyable finale. This season was not as good as the last, but better than the first, and it truly only gets better. More people need to watch Doctor Who- it's truly a masterpiece in modern- and pre modern- TV..Score: 5/5

Series 3Sounds harsh to say it but this is easily the worst series of the four. Really not quite sure what happened?! If I had to pin it down it would be the angst and the heaviness that Martha's unrequited love brought to the show which never quite worked for me. When Catherine Tate came into Series 4 the fact that they were just great mates really gave it a new, fresh direction. The Runaway Bride is great and the guy that plays Donna's would be husband is rather attractive it has to be said. The best episodes are: The Runaway Bride, The Shakespeare Code (amazing, my sister the English teacher who hates Doctor Who loved it!), Gridlock, Blink (ironically it's probably the best of the series and the Doctor isn't even in it,hhhmmmm), Utopia and The Sound of drums. Last of the Time Lords is a bit far fetched for me and went a bit wonky. However it's watchable just for Jon Simm's AM-A-ZING performance, absolutely astonishing, possibly outacts David Tennant. Great seriesGreat series, although not my favourite. My favourite episode was blink. I'll admit it was a little creepy but why is everyone saying it's terrifying? It's not! I also enjoyed Human nature/the Family of Blood, a good two parter. I wouldn't recommend the last two episodes though. John Simm did a great job, but for me the whole thing was just a bit stupid and overdone (the Toclafane were awful monsters, in my opinion - if you can call them monsters - just a sphere with spikes coming out of it isn't exactly the most creative thing ever). I preffered the second half of the series all in all, wasn't a big fan of Gridlock, although I did like the Shakespeare code. 42 had you on the edge of your seat 90 percent of the time, and was also quite frightening, and the same can be said for the Lazarus experiment, but the special effects were not the best I've seen in doctor who. As someone else has said, I didn't like how at the beginning, Martha wasn't a very definite character. She was never really with the Doctor properly in the TARDIS until the sixth or seventh episode, and this annoyed me quite a bit. Martha is probably my least favourite companion (although she did act the part well in Human Nature/Family of blood), as she didn't act the part amazingly well, like Billie Piper. She wasn't really anything special or different that particularly added to the show, but then again, I don't think anybody could really match up to Rose. Well, maybe Amy Pond in the new series? We'll just have to wait and see. So, all in all, I did quite enjoy this series, but if you are only buying one series, I would reccomend series 2..Score: 4/5
Third time's a Charm!Freema Agyeman is a real find as this season's heroine to fill the rather large shoes left by the departure of the much-loved Rose Tyler played by Billie Piper. I like the fact that Dr. Martha Jones was already a rather intelligent, sassy and accomplished young woman even before she met the Doctor by accident rather than the rather unremarkable shop-girl that Rose was initially. From the very first episode, you can tell that she is the glue holding her rather fractious family together. I think the tone for this series is darker than the previous two, but with a satisfying and fulfilling outcome for our heroes by the end of the series. At times I thought the unrequited love Martha felt for our hero did a disservice to her character, but you could sense she was growing out of it towards the second-half of the series as the Doctor was determined not to get too attached to his friend again following the painful loss of Rose. I think the Doctor could occasionally be far too careless with his companion's feelings in this series and by the time he realized his mistake, she was moving on. Series 3 - especially with the reintroduction of the Master - explores the darker side of the Time Lord's character, his rage and fury and cold indifference [see what the Doctor does to punish the Family of Blood]. There are hints of casual racism in the series (if I recall correctly, Freema was the first black full-time companion in the show's history), imminent peril in 42, a bleak look at the future in Gridlock, wanton slaughter by the Family of Blood, a horrifying mutation of the Daleks in grim Depression-era Hooverville and Steven Moffat makes us all afraid of stone statues leading on to a belter of a three-part finale when each of our three heroes have an epiphany of their true value and purpose. The harshness of the gruelling struggle makes our heroine Martha Jones's eventual triumph, in particular, all the more glorious! It was a neat and satisfying conclusion to the self-contained story in this series, but I still gulped hard to see Dr. Jones leave the Tardis full-time to become a more Earthbound defender of the human race. Murray Gold's musical score really excelled to lift the gloom of the series with some memorable tracks such as All the Strange Strange Creatures, Martha's Theme and the Doctor Forever..Score: 5/5

There are a few good episodes The Shakespeare Code (look the Harry Potter references),The Runaway Bride is brilliant ( due to the lack of martha) and the family blood and blink also good.
