The best show on T.V. ever. PERIOD !!By far the best, the realest show to ever grace my television in my life. Some people I hear complain about the foul language, or the adult content (nudity, & violence). Well guess what ? That is what makes this show so good ! Along with the excellent acting and directing and producing. Besides I hate to break it to the thin skinned people that must forget how to change the chanel ? In real life, especially in the real life of the streets, wheather it's Baltimore or any large city, People engage in and see violence, engage in and see prostitutes and sex, and people cuss and use foul language. If foul is what you choose to call it? I;d say it's just the language of the streets. I;m from Long Beach California, and it's very simular to Baltimore in about every way this show depicts. Great show, great season, but just not quite as good as the restI was originally apprehensive about the focus on the press vs the street, cops, etc. However, I was able to see how important it was to cover this aspect. (That the creators of the show were one a reporter and the other a former Baltimore detective/middle school teacher made it even more clear.) The focus on the press opens your eyes to how your daily newspaper not only is in danger of fading away but how they are trying to stay alive. These survival activities only undermine the quaility of the product not unlike an eatery preying on customer's desire for a quick fast food dinner over a wholesome nutritional one. The only draw back I had to this season was the "punch drunk tired" nature of some of the acting. I have seen it in other shows as they are aproaching their final seaons. Some of the acting was a little over the top in the season to the point of being silly. I can only think that there was a desire to do more than previous seasons. Be warned, just like in other seasons you will be subjected to departures of characters that you will find hard to take..Score: 4/5

One of the best television series ever...The Wire is an exceptionally well-written, brilliantly acted, and superbly directed series. This drama reveals (over five years) much of what is going on in our society today: abject poverty, racism, drug trafficking, political corruption, and the affects of class difference in America. The Wire handles these topics with staunch, often brutal, realism, especially with regards to addressing the extreme poverty and hopelessness of Black inner city life in Baltimore. One of the most disturbing and profound scenes I've ever witnessed on television or film, involved an execution of a child by another child (his friend). Yet, this horrific act "made sense" within the apathetic and amoral logic of the streets. The Wire laid out a landscape of communities and it did not allow us to comfortably embrace one particular community. The drug lords and their soldiers and street dealers, the local and state politicians and the police force they administer (from the Captain right on down to the cop on the beat), the homeless and the working class and the wealthy cannot easily be typecast as struggles between good and bad. This is the virtue of The Wire: contemporary suburban life is complex and dynamic, and therefore cannot be captured, or understood, within one perspective. The Wire weaved several stories together and showed us that there is no "grand" narrative available - we don't get closure, nor should we. The good and bad, the virtuous and evil, these are distinctions that exist within and between communities. The Wire peels back the formulaic, predictable world of much of what we see on television and gives us a brief glimpse into what is really going on around us. Granted it does so as a television show, and therefore it has its limitations. But The Wire respects the subject matter and it does not (often) preach to us - we are left to make up our own minds as to whether we ought to be optimistic, skeptical, or cynical (or all three)..Score: 5/5
