The best show on T.V. ever. PERIOD !!By far the best, the realest show to ever grace my television in my life. Some people I hear complain about the foul language, or the adult content (nudity, & violence). Well guess what ? That is what makes this show so good ! Along with the excellent acting and directing and producing. Besides I hate to break it to the thin skinned people that must forget how to change the chanel ? In real life, especially in the real life of the streets, wheather it's Baltimore or any large city, People engage in and see violence, engage in and see prostitutes and sex, and people cuss and use foul language. If foul is what you choose to call it? I;d say it's just the language of the streets. I;m from Long Beach California, and it's very simular to Baltimore in about every way this show depicts. Start with season one and like me you wont be able to quit until the series is over..Score: 5/5
Great show, great season, but just not quite as good as the restI was originally apprehensive about the focus on the press vs the street, cops, etc. However, I was able to see how important it was to cover this aspect. (That the creators of the show were one a reporter and the other a former Baltimore detective/middle school teacher made it even more clear.) The focus on the press opens your eyes to how your daily newspaper not only is in danger of fading away but how they are trying to stay alive. These survival activities only undermine the quaility of the product not unlike an eatery preying on customer's desire for a quick fast food dinner over a wholesome nutritional one. The only draw back I had to this season was the "punch drunk tired" nature of some of the acting. I have seen it in other shows as they are aproaching their final seaons. Some of the acting was a little over the top in the season to the point of being silly. I can only think that there was a desire to do more than previous seasons. Be warned, just like in other seasons you will be subjected to departures of characters that you will find hard to take..Score: 4/5

Great show, start with Season 1This is one of the best shows on television. But no one episode stands on its own, so start with the first season and watch them all. Yes, there is foul language and adult content. If you take offense, find a different show. But the show doesn't rely on these components to entertain. Plots are excellent, characters are believable, and nothing is predictable. This show easily ranks up there with Sopranos or Brotherhood..Score: 5/5

One of the best TV shows ever made.The show is incredible, it sets the bar so high - it puts mainstream TV to shame. It's like reading a great book you'll never forget. The WireHBO hit a home run with this. Having worn a badge for 26 years I can say this is the best police series ever made. They captured the politics of policing a large city, life inside the office and on the street. A modern tv classic!One of the best tv shows ever! To call The Wire gritty & realistic would be accurate but doesn't even begin to describe the show well enough. Brilliantly written & acted & with echoes of the classic Homicide:Life on the Street, The Wire is the 1st show in a long time to take a proper look at life in very different communities & and social classes in one city. Greatest Show Ever?I'm astonished at just how good The Wire is and, although it's good to go out on a high, i'm gutted this is the end because it's probably the best written show around. The characters are excellent, with no main star the story becomes the star. I've seen people say The Shield is better but you can't compare, The Shield is brutal quick paced show while The Wire slowly pulls all the strings together in a hugely satisfying way. The writers are all well known novelists so it's much more like a book played out in front of you than a episodic normal TV series. Simply put buy all the series as quick as you can because they are a pure joy..Score: 5/5

BrilliantThis is a really great serise. wouldnt have got in to it but my wife had it on and I caught a few episodes. Luckey me. Watch the serise from the start as it will be much more enjoyable. The best TV show ever madeQuite simply perfect. The depth of charactization presented in The Wire is remarkable. It breaks just about every rule on how to make compelling television, the most crucial scenes are presented without any fanfare, it's almost presented like a factual documentary, the effect on the viewer is pretty much astounding. I was quite cynical about watching the Wire, having heard so much hype in the media and from friends. It exceeded every expectation I had, by a clear mile. It's all in the game.
