THE BEST OF THE BEST!Star Trek, when my dad first showed it to me, has been my ultimate favorite TV show! I can't stop thinking about it, day and night, I think and dream about it: about what it would be like to be a starship captain, or a first officer, or a yeoman. I think it would be really fun! I just wish I had the ability to travel back in time and meet all of the cast; including Gene Roddenberry! William Shatner, I look up to you, and admire you very much! Same goes to you, Leonard Nimoy!.Score: 5/5
Awesome!Star Trek has always been the best sci-fi series because of its characters and intricate stories. Since I have reviewed the first season, I think I might as well review this one too. 1) Catspaw- a pretty good start to the season 2) Metamorphosis- You see, Star Trek: First Contact---------Zephram Cochrane wasn't a drunkard nor was he played by a different actor 3) Friday's Child- Nope.....not much of a fan of it, but I do admit that the effects were improved on this one (now the Klingon ship actually looks like a Klingon ship instead of a colorful blob on the viewing screen) 4) Who Mourns for Adonais?- back to the awesome again. Good 5) Amok Time- it's actually good and the effects are improved on (by the way, the effects added things from the Star Trek Animated Series.....which I am confused as to why you fans consider that noncanon while you consider Enterprise to be canon. I am also surprised that Apple did not upload the animated series....it's awesome!) 6) The Doomsday Machine- WHOA! Even though this was my favorite episode of the season I must admit something.....the original effects weren't that good. But, when the remastering came, it greatly improved the episode. Heck, it's now epic. Good job Paramount for the effects. 7) Wolf in the Fold- a pretty good episode and....wait, no. Scotty couldn't have killed that girl with a knife from Alpha Centauri....must have been someone from there with Jack the Ripper's spirit in them 8) The Changeling- I AM NOMAD! I like this episode 9) The Apple- you know, this one is pretty good 10) The Omega Glory- another good episode by the way.... 11) Journey to Babel- this episode was great already due to the inclusion of Sarek of Vulcan (portrayed by Mark Leonard....don't worry, he's no Romulan), the Tellorite (did I spell that right?), and the Andorians. We also got to learn a little more about Mr. Spock....goody. By the way, the effects for this one were improved, but still paying homage to the original. Get a look at the ship that battles the Enterprise at the end and you'll see what I mean 12) The Immunity Syndrome- pretty good 13) Assignment Earth- this episode is good and {sigh} I might as well point this one out. This was supposed to be a pilot episode to some spinoff show involving Mr. Sevens, which would have been interesting. Oh, if only it had been so. 14) Mirror, Mirror- Oh, yeah. You know about this awesome episode. This is the one that's been parodied, payed homage to, and ripped off so many times you will loose count. It's that good 15) A Private Little War- this one is great and by the way.....I actually like the Mugato (did I spell that right?). It's pretty cool 16) The Deadly Years- OK, enough with the awesome. It's ok, but not as great as these other ones 17) The Gamesters of Triskelion- OK, this one is also good. But, I am surprised they didn't remaster the image in the Thrall's window (still looks like the refinery from The Devil In The Dark) 18) By Any Other Name- this would have been just an OK episode if it hadn't been for Warren Stevens (Doc Ostrow from Forbidden Planet) making a guest appearance 19) Obsession- another OK episode....sheesh Kirk. Let it go already 20) Return to Tomorrow- another OK episode 21) I, Mudd- HARDCORT! HARDCORT FENTON MUDD! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? I HAVEN'T SEEN YOU IN ANOTHER EPISODE IN SOMETIME AND- [Mudd yells, "SHUT UP!"] [Slowly starts to shut up]- I...am....not...programmed....to.....respond...in....that- 22) Patterns of Force- not really a fan of it, but yet it's on the Best of Star Trek: The Original Series vol. 1 on iTunes [huh?] 23) The Ultimate Computer- M5 Tie-in. This episode is actually great. Also, this inspired the sci-fi films like The Forbin Project (did I spell that right?), Westworld, the Terminator films, and the Matrix due to the computer taking over aspect. The effects for this are greatly improved (though I am wondering how come the fleet of Federation ships fighting the Enterprise weren't varied in design instead of just the Constitution class ships? I guess those units must survive) 24) The Trouble With Tribbles- Oooh boy! This one is a riot and a great story. William Campbell ["Retired sir, just Squire Trelane now. And you may call me squire. Yes, I rather fancy that."] appears as the Klingon captain, Koloth (did I spell that right?). Also, the effects are improved with this one. 25) Bread and Circuses- not much of a fan of this episode....but we will see a certain guest star in season 3 later. Try to guess which one. 26) A Piece of the Action- uh....Jim. Please step out of the car before you kill someone with it. You are a terrible driver Bottomline, this season is superior to the first one. I will review the next and final season of the original Star Trek series. Live Long and Prosper..Score: 5/5
The Doomsday MachineBack in the 60's, Batman ran opposite Star Trek for awhile, and I was an avid Batman fan. One night the network preempted the show, and I decided to check out the "Star Trek" thing. The episode that aired that night was "The Doomsday Machine." After that hour, I never returned to the caped crusader. I simply can't believe what the digitally remastered effects shots have done for this already intense story. It became clear to me that Gene Roddenberry and company wanted to tell so much more, but didn't have the effects budget. The episode has really come to life. The planet killer itself is much more menacing, and I have to mention that William Wyndom's Commodore Decker is seen in a whole new light (at least he was for me.) Thanks so much, iTunes!.Score: 5/5

Not Ready YetI was waiting for season 2 and was delighted to see it available in HD and purchased it as soon as I saw it available on 9-MAY-2011. There was a problem in that the HD versions were not correctly identifed causing duplicate names in the TV listings where the second one downloaded was named by appending a 1 to it. I opened a ticket with the iTunes store about this and they have started an investagation. They also refunded my purchase on 11-MAY-2011 while they look into this. (Thanks!) As anyone who has purchased HD TV shows from iTunes knows they include both the HD and SD versions that only get listed once in the TV listings where you can choose to play the HD version on your computer while the SD version gets synced to your iPod. A very good design and implementation that is missing from this season. Once this problem is fixed I will be repurchashing this season as well as the other two seasons. A "Must Have" For Star Trek FansA "must have" for Star Trek fans. The digital remastering work is focused primarily on Enterprise and planet fly-bys, viewing screen content on the bridge, and some glass paintings and mats for large scenes (e.g., a landing part beaming down to an immense city-scape of ruins). They stay true to the spirit of the original series, while taking advantage of the latest CGI effects. The remastering also repaired scratches and other flaws from the original negatives, and boosted contrast to make the show look its best.
