Season 3: A Mixture of the Best and the WorstAll 3 seasons have their good episodes, but I think season 3 has some of the best in the entire Star Trek franchise, while the others leave much to be desired. I absolutely love that the series was remastered into HD (you can't do that with TNG/DS9/VOY now can you?), but it annoys me that they took the liberty to add in their cheesey CGI effects and new music performances. Part of the charm of TOS is the 60's effects technology and the nostalgia it invokes. Perhaps one day they will actually restore a completely faithful version of TOS. Until then, humanity has this, the most influential TV show ever produced. Some favorite episodes: For the World is Hollow..., Spock's Brain (cheesey, but I love this one), The Paradise Syndrome, Wink of an Eye (pure GENIUS), Elaan of Troyus, The Mark of Gideon, The Cloudminders, and All Our Yesteryears (best episode in the entire series, in my opinion). This series also has some of the worst: And the Children Shall Lead, Is There in Truth No Beauty, The Empath, and The Lights of Zetar -- the writers were definitely off their game on these, and I pretty much detest these episodes!.Score: 4/5

A "Must Have" For Star Trek FansA "must have" for Star Trek fans. The digital remastering work is focused primarily on Enterprise and planet fly-bys, viewing screen content on the bridge, and some glass paintings and mats for large scenes (e.g., a landing part beaming down to an immense city-scape of ruins). They stay true to the spirit of the original series, while taking advantage of the latest CGI effects. The remastering also repaired scratches and other flaws from the original negatives, and boosted contrast to make the show look its best. If you loved Star Trek the first time around, then you'll love the digitally remastered edition all over again..Score: 5/5

Beware! The HD is not so "HD"The show's great. I love the Trek. I bought the blu-ray for seasons 1 and 2. When I saw that season 3 was available on iTunes, I thought, Cool! I'd prefer not to bother with disks lying about the house. Unfortunately the quality of these "HD" downloads is terrible compared to the Blu-Ray releases. The iTunes versions only seem to be available in 720, NOT 1080. The difference between those two resolutions is HUGE! The blu-ray is so pristine in comparison. Oh, well..Score: 4/5

Even the less than best has some good pointsBy the third season some of the ideas were drying up, but there are still some gems. The worst is Spock's Brain, the best Assignment Earth with a wonderful performance by Teri Garr..Score: 4/5
CC are just about okayI would give this series a 5 star rating for the show itself. My 4 star rating is for how good the studio did the work on putting the Closed Captions (CC) for the deaf on the files. The CCs are really good, but in most cases, in some episodes, it had been notiecable out of sync, the subtitles are just a little too early for what the characters are saying. For example, we would read the subtitles of what Capt Kirk was saying, then the subtitles would be of Dr McCoy saying something, but we see Kirk speaking, then we see McCoy speaking. The CCs are little too early but often then gets back in sync and are on time. Happens with various episodes. But otherwise deaf people can enjoy this iTunes download..Score: 4/5
