When a group of cannibal savages kidnaps settlers from the small town of Bright Hope, an unlikely team of gunslingers, led by Sheriff Hunt (Kurt Russell), sets out to bring them home.
During a shootout in a saloon, Sheriff Hunt injures a suspicious stranger. The doctor's assistant, wife of the local foreman, tends to him in prison. That night, the town is attacked and they both disappear—only the arrow of a cannibal tribe is found. Hunt and a few of his men go in search of the prisoner and the foreman's wife.

Funny storyWe rented this two Thanksgivings ago to watch as a family. We did not know of the extreme gore component. When that moment arrived everybody in the room gasped in shocked horror. Almost everybody was sorry we saw what we saw. Happy thanksgiving! Truly truly horrific scene of a man hanging upside down being split open from crotch to chest. Recently still alive, I suppose the bone tomahawk through the mouth into the head was merciful? Wildly realistic and shocking. Yuck..Score: 1/5
Classic Western crossed with a Quentin Tarantino level of Horror violenceIf you can appreciate the poetry of hanging a sherrif's badge on the chest of an aging action hero (Kurt Russell) in a western frontier town, if you understand that the monstrosity of the troglodytes is probably very close to the experience -- however misplaced -- of the colonial settler's view of Native Americans, and if you can enjoy all that together with some Reservoir Dogs-level violence, then this is a cult-favorite for very good reasons..Score: 5/5

Just...NoLet me start off by saying that I love westerns and gory movies. But this movie is garbage. When you spend 20 percent of the movie on the not so convincing kidnapping, 60 percent on actually getting to the place you’re going (where they just sleep in most of it) and then the last like 20 minutes in the actual “rescue” if you can even call it that... it makes for a pretty sad and shameful excuse for a movie. Not to mention that Kurt Russell plays the same cowboy part he always plays. The non-convincing, low toned, tough guy who apparently has never had an acting class a day in his life. I was looking forward to this movie but alas it was but a poor failure..Score: 1/5

Rotten Tomatoes IS RottenIn this movie, Whites are mostly civilized, God fearing people; and Indians are animal like savages! This ugly framework plays out in a slow tedious manner-except for a few moments of bloody gore towards the end. Gore is by the Indians, of course. Very Gore-filledI thought this would be a more classic western since it’s categorized as such. Do not watch if you dislike gore. They show a man literally being ripped in half lengthwise and limbless, blinded female sex slaves. I will never watch this again..Score: 1/5

Not fresh at allThis might be a spoiler now, but frankly, people intent on watching this "western" need to be aware of this: for about 80 minutes this is a Western. But, from there on out it turns into something I didn't expect and it's quite disgusting. If you expect "normal" violence, there's that. But seeing people getting scalped and before being hacked in half from between your butt with a bone ax and then ripped apart isn't normal. Least not where I'm from. This is no Western. This movie ought to be put into the Horror/Gore genre. The story and acting itself is fine and I wanted to like the movie, but no, this is the sort of movie I personally don't need. It’s entertaining throughoutBelievable, likeable, characters with interesting dialogue and a compelling story. A heroes journey I thought and I liked it. Reminded me of a the old Clint Eastwood westerns with a bit of grind-house thrown in the update the old western and give it that sense a sense of horror. Is it great? No. But I didn’t not feel ripped off at the end of it either. I’d like another one to be honest..Score: 4/5

Tediously StupidI didn’t want to say I hate it, but it was worse than I don’t like it. Sort of in-between hate and don’t like. It was just tediously stupid and entirely ridiculous. The acting, the script, the plot, the character’s motivations, the portrayal of aboriginal people, the ending — all are worthy of disapproval.
