Not based on reality as the real story is not based in realityI have a lot to say on this. There is a telephone game type effect going on here. If you want to write a fictional story about a girl that sees Jesus and God after an accident and then magically also gets better from an illness thanks only to faith.... Than do that. I spent hours looking into this story like I do everything and the real story is not deserving of a bunch of money that the family defiantly made off all this. The one thing that made the almost unbearably silly and way too long movie slightly and I mean slightly watchable was Jennifer's performance. Still it was only bearable. The movie shows the girl' illness and magical cure over a year. The mother claims her daughter was sick for four and a half years. It took that long to find a proper diagnoses. Here comes the major issues and I honestly believe the possible "lies". The rare disorders that the mother claims her daughter was finally diagnosed with: a) cannot be definitively proven with any kind of tests. They are only ruled in when all other disorders have been ruled out and when the symptoms fit the disorder. b) they are absolutely ruled out when the patients have obstructions. GI should feel like it's full and look distended but upon further inspection and with X-rays and ultrasound the GI tract should be completely clear. This was a big point for the diagnoses of these disorders. Annabel had to get obstructions removed a number of times which rules these out. c) let's ignore that it's almost 100% not likely she had either of those disorders and pretend she did. There are many treatments for them that are not as severe or as life threatening as the three and only three very serious ones she claims are the only ones offered. Some of these treatments if they work can be a cure. d) both of these disorders usually are not life long. They are acute and last a few months or are chronic and last years but at some point a treatment works or in some cases there is spontaneous remission with a healthy lifestyle and following of basic treatments; this means antibiotics and liquid diets. It is not a miracle that she got better if she had these disorders it is totally normal. Next there is the tree. There is easy and basic math you can do just looking at the pictures of the tree she fell into and it was not 30 feet. It was at most 18 feet if it went deeper than ground level at the bottom. You can see the hole in the tree where she fell in and there are pictures of how wide the space was inside. It is not shocking in any shape form or way that she only got slightly injured. Also if the doctor actually told her that nobody EVER falls from 30 feet (which Annabel did not fall from) without getting seriously hurt than he was just trying to be kind or he's.a terrible doctor. People fall from thousands of feet unhurt. Not all the time obviously but it has happened. Annabel did not come out unhurt as she had a concussion and bruising. In earlier interviews before the book and the fame desperation the mother in fact said that Annabel's MRI showed she had three contusions on her head. They kept her over night due to the concussion to observe her. Which brings me to the most important points after all the already possible lies and obvious hyperbole. When you are concussed you can hallucinate, hear things that aren't there, become very quite and despondent and would appear quite calm in an emergent situation. It is very likely that given her extremely religious family that her hallucinations would be religious in nature. Some of them never happened and were coached or made up by the mother and you can tell by the difference in language. In the first few interviews about what she saw the hallucinations were simple and childlike. The words said made sense for a nine year old and later the same story would be completely changed and the words would be far more complex and clearly not from Annabel. This is supported by interviews with actual Annabel. She regularly says nonsensical words because she doesn't know the real word and gets corrected by a family member or reporter. There is NO way the embellished stories that are told more and more as time passes came from her mouth. Also the time frame for her magical cure changes if you go over interviews. In older interviews they slowly noticed her needing less meds and being in less pain over months. Then closer to the book and after the book comes out its almost immediately after the fall. If Their child had been diagnosed with ALS or Parkinson's or MS and I mean multiple blood tests showing positive and she had gotten better from that after the fall. Then she could have written a book, made a movie and claimed a miracle. The church did not come forward and call this a miracle for a reason and not have they ever. Science will always explain what's happening and when it doesn't it's not God. It just means we don't understand the science yet. I don't like this movie because it's boring as hell, badly written and not based in reality. I don't believe this family deserved money for lying. I am very happy that a child is no longer sick. I'm sad that she thinks a brain injury was god talking to her. Religious people can argue against this all they want but I did the research. This particular story is not a grey area. God was not involved here. A mother manipulated the story of her sick child. That's not cool in my books. Religious or not. I won't pay money to watch this movie ever. It was always be seen by free means and I will NEVER buy her book. I'm sick with a rare disease too and my life is far more interesting and actually true. Where's my book deal?.Score: 1/5
