An underrated tale of sacrifice and heroism.In retaliation of Reinhard Heydrich's horrible rule over Czechoslovakia, the former ruling government, now in exile, sends soldiers Jozef Gabčík (Cillian Murphy) and Jan Kubiš (Jaime Dornan) to the Nazi-infested city of Prague to assassinate the man behind the horrid 'Final Solution' and show not only Nazi Germany, but the Allies that the Czech people will not stand by and evil oppress them. There have been movies which have chronicled assassinations or attempted ones of Nazi officials before, though many of the higher profile ones have been criticized for being too historically inauthentic (Valkyrie, where Germans speak British or American), or for using history simply as a backdrop to a fictional story (Inglourious Basterds, which rewrote history entirely). "Anthropoid" is probably as authentic as you can get, as it stays as true to the facts as possible, and all the actors portray the characters with accents that are true to the Czech people of the time. All of the major criticisms of this film have been directed toward its slower pace and general lack of anything new in terms of narrative; however, I believe that the films pacing lends itself not only towards the authenticity of its plot, but towards the authenticity of what a real spy story is. Real spies don't just walk around in nice clothes, drink a martini or two, shoot the bad guy, then leave with no real consequences. This film shows you just how tense and unglamorous the world of a spy really can be. As for the supposed unambitious narrative, this film just wants to tell a true story that not many people are aware of, so I don't see how the film can be any more than what it sets out to be. To make note of other positives regarding "Anthropoid", Cillian Murphy and Jaime Dornan do a great job leading this film. Granted, they are a little stoic for the first half, but given their characters positions, they have to be; it's when the knuckle-baring final 40 minutes chronicling the assassination kicks in that they really have to bring out their emotional struggle, and they achieve it amazingly without being too Hollywood mainstream. Props also to Sean Ellis not only for his amazing direction, but for his cinematography, which utilizes hand-held technique, but manages to use it artistically without inducing motion-sickness, i.e. the Bourne series. All around, the technical aspects are to commended being well produced, but not too showy at the same time. It's a shame that this film hasn't recieved as much praise as it deserves, but I implore anyone who has even a mild interest in watching "Anthropoid" to please do so. You won't regret it. Full Price. Shaky camera ruined it for meThe movie is too slow to begin, but once it starts up at the halfway mark, its ok. The shaky handheld camera, however, ruined the movie for me..gave me a headache right away. The period look of the movie was excellent..Score: 3/5

Band of BrothersWhat an incredible series Band of Brothers was. Very emotional and sad and at the same time so hopeful. This movie has all. It is Schindler List and Band of Brothers. I went to Prague last summer, and understand how key this country was and is in squashing Nazism. How anyone could worry about the "slow" pace in the beginning is unfathomable. It is an emotional build up that makes you completely involved by the ending. A must see for sure. Do not pass it up..Score: 5/5
Very grimThis is a very dark and stark movie, and frankly one I would have preferred not to see. I walked out, and didn't see the last 20 minutes. I'm pretty used to warfare movies, but this one is exceptionally graphic. If you like this movie, you might want to think about that..Score: 1/5
