Chicken may be just food for most people, but raising the perfect chicken is an all-consuming passion for some. CMT has partnered with Emmy Award-winning Motto Pictures, and Emmy nominated director Nicole Lucas Haimes for “Chicken People,” a documentary that takes a charming and fascinating look at the colorful and hugely competitive world of champion show chicken breeders. A real life “Best in Show” but about chickens, the film follows the struggles and triumphs of both humans and their chickens on the road to compete at the Ohio National Poultry Show, considered the Westminster of Chickens.
The trials and tribulations of those who breed exotic birds in the world of competitive poultry; three remarkably rich and diverse personalities who come together to compete in their shared passion to raise the perfect chicken. The film will follow the struggles and triumphs of these characters, along with a wide array of competitors-both human and chicken-from the Ohio National Poultry Show, considered the Westminster of Chickens, to the Dixie Classic in Tennessee.

Touching Film, Very Well Done!This was a great, in-depth look at the passionate sub-culture of people who raise show chickens. Not only were the chickens beautiful and the show-game fascinating , but the kind, thoughtful, midwestern sensibilities of these people touched my heart. My dad was from an Indiana farm and my mom was from Cleveland. I am very far away from the midwest at this point, but again getting a glimpse of this milieu, the chicken fanciers, made me realize that there is still some love and kindness in this world. A must-see movie, very well done..Score: 5/5
