Paterson

Paterson Summary and Synopsis

Paterson (Adam Driver) is a bus driver in the city of Paterson, New Jersey - they share the name. Every day, he adheres to a simple routine of driving his daily route, where he observes the city as it drifts across his windshield, overhearing fragments of the conversations that swirl around him. He writes poetry into a notebook, walks his dog, and has exactly one beer at a local bar. By contrast, his loving wife Laura (Golshifteh Farahani), is a dreamer who is constantly inspired by new ideas and ambitious projects, all the while championing Paterson’s gift for poetry. The history and energy of the City of Paterson is a felt presence in the film, and its simple structure unfolds over the course of a single week. In this “wise, winning… and moving” (Vanity Fair) film from acclaimed director Jim Jarmusch, the quiet triumphs and defeats of daily life are observed, along with the poetry that’s evident in its smallest details. A week in the life of Paterson, a poet bus driver, and his wife Laura, a very creative artist, who live in Paterson, New Jersey, hometown of many famous poets and artists. Paterson Wiki

- Authentic and unadulterated5 star

Paterson is such a breath of fresh air. It really delves into the subtleties and details of every day life with an effortless and coherent sense of comprehension that makes the film feel Authentic and unadulterated.

- So Glad I Watched This5 star

This was exactly the movie I needed tonight. What a beautiful little movie...seemingly mundane and unassuming but by the end is so profound I find myself feeling quite emotional about it. Adam Driver is just remarkable.

- Pathetic1 star

This film just never gets going, like never. I guess it’s a bad attempt at an art film but thin story with very little happening, if that was the point then 5 stars

- Beautiful5 star

A beautifully written film. Thoughtful. Deep. Sweet bits of humour...

- Bintumani1 star

The trailer alone was excrutiatingly slow. I had to rate the trailer because I am definitely not inspired enough to even rent the movie. 95% on the tomato scale?!

- Quietly great!5 star

Beautiful in a gentle subtle way.

- Wasted talent, wasted time.1 star

I'm fine with slice-of-life stories, but without a bit of conflict or resolution, there is nothing satisfying or redeeming about this story. Fine production quality, but otherwise, this was two hours I will never get back.

- It's a Wonderful Life5 star

An unhurried celebration of real love and real life revealed in the chronicle of a week of the simple (except it's not) life of two ordinary (except they’re not) people. Jarmusch reveals that passion and emotional depth can be found in the smallest details of everyday existence. There is no need for epoch tales and the adventures of heroes.

- groovy5 star

We liked it through and through, easy to see, and to appreciate the details and sincere actions of our own lives Interesting change of pace, seemingly slow yet with just the right moves, with enough silences, and details: subtle. Anyone can see it, but it's not for everyone. An example of how art improves life. If you tend to talk all the time and want constant stimulus then you may wish to pass this ride.

- Boring beyond belief1 star

This is a movie purporting to have content but which has no soul. It's an incredibly shallow rendition of a self absorbed director who has no depth to reveal in himself or his characters. Wanting to have spiritual or emotional depth is not the same as having it. He needs to actually go make comedy (Which this movie IS NOT) until he gevelops some emotional depth and understanding or stop smoking so much dope that he believes his own friends who must all be stoned to tell him his work is great. Bloody awful waste of time.

- Snooze Fest2 star

Ignore the 95% Rotten Tomatoes score. This movie has no plot. I grew up near Paterson and it the city is much worse than depicted in this movie. The movie literally put me to sleep.

- Poetry in Motion5 star

And like poetry, it is a movie to be savored, and one that moves at its own pace, filled with internal rhymes. Unfortunately, also like poetry, this will be lost on so many who are unable to slow down long enough to enjoy it's nuanced unfolding.

- I Didn't Get It...1 star

This was no comedy. I gave it 1 Star because I watched the entire movie in one sitting.

- Boring, slow, unbelievable actors1 star

Have nothing good to say. All the unsaid moments left me guessing "so what did that mean?" Moves slowly and repetitively which is the point BUT rather than being intriguing I had to ask why am I watching this.

- I think this is about life happening if you can hear it....4 star

It took me a while to notice how quiet these people are. And how full of real life. No cell phone; no bar TV. To me this movie is a medidation on the sumptuousness available in everyday life for those not just willing, not just able, not just "artistic" but quiet enough and not distracted enough by all the noise to be open to the richness. Even Paterson has a history of famous people attesting that accomplishment lives here. It is also the story of pdople who live withn their means; a novelty, certainly. This is Jarmusch chanelling Ozu. Lovely and magical in its stillness for me.

- Amazing film. Wish there were more iTunes Extras.5 star

Paterson was my favorite film of 2016, and I feel like there will be days where I'll just have it playing on a loop. It's like a warm blanket. Unfortunately, the iTunes Extras include: 1) Photo Gallery Aaaand...that's it. Maybe there'll be more Extras added to this title in the future, but the lack of bonus material is a bummer.

- Save your $5.99!1 star

This movie is listed under "Comedy" as its genre - NO WAY! It is an extremely slow moving melancholic avant-garde art film (anemic on the art part). The poetry (a key part of the movie) was pathetic, the characters were shallow and the plot was a needle-less compass that meandered city streets and then just ended. There really was nothing redemptive, interesting or compelling in this movie!

- Cinema!5 star

A truly stunning movie-genius filmmaking-i've not been glued to the screen like this for quite a while.

- Different5 star

This movie is different from what you're used to see. Very creative, very deep, a great mix of emotions, full of symbolism and non-straight-forward things (if that makes sense).

- A real snoozer.1 star

Don't waste your money. This movie will leave you walking out of the room and not caring if you miss a scene or two. Just watch the trailer and you will get a sense what the movie has to offer without having to endure the whole thing.

- Wonderful Movie5 star

I really enjoyed it and great performances.
