Betting on Zero Description

From ‘Darfur Now’ writer/director Ted Braun comes a riveting docu-thriller following controversial hedge fund titan Bill Ackman as he puts a billion dollars on the line in his crusade to expose Herbalife as the largest pyramid scheme in history. Herbalife claims Ackman is simply a market manipulator out to make a fortune from short-selling their stock, but Ackman insists Herbalife deliberately targets low-income and immigrant communities and robs them of their life savings. Herbalife is joined on the counterattack by longtime Ackman nemesis (and fellow Wall Street billionaire) Carl Icahn, while Ackman finds an unlikely ally in Chicago activist Julie Contreras, who rallies the Latino community to get the Federal government to intervene. Blending tales of high-stakes corporate intrigue with working-class people caught in the crossfire, Braun paints a stirring picture of the American Dream gone wrong.

  • 👍🏻

i feel so sorry for the people. guys, rather spend your money on the farmers market. buy good, organic food. how can you believe that a herbal tea will change your life? it only changes the life of the ceo. over 80 millions annual salary? this is unmoral, ergo the company is unmoral.
  • Well made but leave it at that

    Adderall Diaries
This doc is pretty convincing. SPOILER ALERT: Added a useless fact about President Trump at the end. Please STOP!
  • Fantastic

One of the best documentaries I have seen in years.
  • A must watch

It's about time the truth about this company hits the mainstream...
  • The ugly truth about a criminal company

    Prince for ever
An important and excellent Documentation. Now i finally know, why i've never seen HB-Products in any german households. But it's really hard to believe, that Herbalife is still allowed to go on with that kind of ruthlless, obvious fraud. Congrats to Christinano Ronaldo, who is greedy and irresponsible enough, to participate as a testimonial for these unbearable liars.
  • Another compelling story about the American Dream?

In a country with a rich history of scams of every possible flavor, this documentary provides us with a fairly balanced overview of yet another...but alas, it is only a glimpse of a scheme whipped up with a religious fervor that promises big profits that prove illusory for all but a few at the very top. It is ironic that the "short seller", Ackman, driving the narrative of this documentary was actually himself part of an even bigger scam involving a pharmaceutical company who's profits were based on jacking up the prices of prescription drugs. Alot of small-time investors lost their shirts, while a certain hedge fund manager walked away scott free. Business as usual in America!
  • 5 out of 5 beltlines

    Amazing documentary. A must watch.
  • A little long

Enjoyed the documentary though I feel like the message could've been conveyed in 60-80 mins. Not 105.
  • The “Negative” Reviews are Fake — Take a Closer Look

When a film sits at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with glowing reviews from The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Village Voice and The Hollywood Reporter to name just a few, you have to wonder about “negative” reviews claiming Betting On Zero is perhaps the worst documentary ever made. The truth of the matter is Herbalife and their supporters have spread misleading information about this film from before its release at the Tribeca Film Festival, and have stooped to such tactics as launching an attack website that masquerades as the film’s official website, and buying up nearly 200 tickets to the film’s Washington D.C. premiere so as to leave the theater empty/keep the public out (something John Oliver had a field day with on his show Last Week Tonight). As for their claim that Bill Ackman paid for the film, even Herbalife admits this isn’t true. The real financier, who went on national TV this summer to talk about Betting On Zero, is indeed a short seller and MLM critic, but had no interest or financial stake in Herbalife — long or short.
