GOOK follows two Korean American brothers, Eli (Chon) and Daniel (So), who run their late father’s shoe store in a predominantly African American community of Los Angeles. These two brothers strike up a unique and unlikely friendship with an 11-year-old African American girl, Kamilla (Baker). As Daniel dreams of becoming a recording artist and Eli struggles to keep the store afloat, racial tensions build to a breaking point in L.A. as the “infamous” L.A. Riots break out.

A Must SeeJustin Chon did a great job directing his sophomore film. Plus he had a great cast with David and Simone to star alongside him. Though this is not my normal type of movie, I enjoyed it and would recommend for people to watch it. It shows that family is more than blood. Wow?Where has this director been hiding? Stunned right now. This was so poignant and affecting, better than half the stuff coming out in movie theaters. I could say so much about this movie, but can't say it right now, this has my emotions in a twist right now. But it is a wonderful movie, no issues with ANY of it. How is that possible? Beautiful, Moving, a PowerhouseSaw this at Sundance, and the actors give powerhouse performances, especially Simone Baker as Kamilia--we're gonna be watching her act for years to come. The relationships between the characters feels so authentic and real, and the film just has such a unique voice and tremendous heart to it.
