The Lovers is a refreshing, funny look at love, fidelity, and family, starring Debra Winger and Tracy Letts as a long-married and completely dispassionate husband and wife. Both are in the midst of serious affairs and are increasingly committed to their new partners. On the brink of officially calling it quits, a spark between them suddenly and unexpectedly reignites, leading them into an impulsive romance that forces them to navigate the hilarious complications of 'cheating' on their respective lovers. A mixture of humor and powerful emotion, the story is a uniquely honest take on modern marriage.
The Lovers is an epic romance time travel adventure film. Helmed by Roland Joffé from a story by Ajey Jhankar, the film is a sweeping tale of an impossible love set against the backdrop of the first Anglo-Maratha war across two time periods and continents and centred around four characters — a British officer in 18th century colonial India, the Indian woman he falls deeply in love with, an American present-day marine biologist and his wife.

Glad to see Debra Winger againThat said, I was not convinced by the cast. It's a movie about infidelity, betrayal, anger and new love. This dysfunctional (which, these days, means "normal") family has swept so many years of crap under the carpet that by the time the son is college aged, there is nothing left but confusion & anger. So, it's kind of a Debbie (Winger) Downer movie for me..Score: 4/5
This is a comedy?Very difficult to cheer on a couple so completely self centered and hurtful. I did not like this movie at all but finished it to see how this mess would end and found the ending sad and not funny. The expression on Debra Winger's face throughout the movie was annoying..Score: 1/5
Interesting but not compellingIts great seeing Debra Winger again but I the writing left me unconvinced that their relationship had ever had any depth to it.
