Megan Leavey is based on the true life story of a young marine corporal (Kate Mara) whose unique discipline and bond with her military combat dog saved many lives during their deployment in Iraq. When she is assigned to clean up the K9 unit after a disciplinary hearing, Leavey identifies with a particularly aggressive dog, Rex, and is given the chance to train him. Over the course of their service, Megan and Rex completed more than 100 missions until an IED explosion injures them, putting their fate in jeopardy. Directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite (Blackfish) from a screenplay by Pamela Gray and Annie Mumolo & Tim Lovestedt, the film also stars Edie Falco, Ramón Rodríguez, Bradley Whitford, and Common.
Based on the true story of a marine's best friend.. The true story of Marine Corporal Megan Leavey, who forms a powerful bond with an aggressive combat dog, Rex. While deployed in Iraq, the two complete more than 100 missions and save countless lives, until an IED explosion puts their faithfulness to the test.
I love this movie
Here’s the thing. Some people will rate this movie low because they are rating it for its cinematic value. But, this is a true story. The movie in my opinion was good. So I give it five stars. Why? Because, in life this women did what was right for herself and for her loved one Rex. A lot of people won’t be able to relate even after seeing the movie of the trauma that Veteran humans and service animals go through. But, I see it at Fort Hood all the time and in airports. The dedication these animals have to their handlers is unmatchable to any human to human bond. They 100% put their four legged lives on the line everyday and protect those they serve. They deserve more recognition and dedication to bringing them home and making them a service companion for other soldiers who understand the lives these dogs have led. Because of bomb detection programs military men and women have escaped death more than without the program. I solute them 100%. This movie deserved more promotion and recognition. Especially in a world that currently disrespects the service men and women coming home.
This is by far one of my favorite movies. It is awesome.

LOVED IT! Inspiring and truly amazing.
What a wonderful story. It def pulled on my heart strings.
Great idea terrible execution
Beautifully filmed with an excellent roller coaster that kept me on my seat from start to finish! Well done!! I’d definitely recommend this to all dog lovers and fans of military films!
Really heart touching.
Kate Mara was excellent and what an amazing story this is! The movie makes you, mad, sad, happy, excited, worried, amazed, entertained and in wonder all within 2 hours. If someone needs or expects more than that during a film, they shouldn't be watching movies lol and certainly not rating them. It was a great adventure. Ignore any negative feedback. It's worth watching!!
Wonderfully made move turns into political propaganda for Sen Schumer.
You don't see enough women war stories! This is a true story of one woman and her journey with her beloved Marine, Rex, they together save thousands of lives. She comes out learning to trust and love.
True love comes in many forms...our four legged loves are there through thick, thin, and then some put that and war in the mix and I can't imagine there would be any lesser bond than what was put forth in this film.
Kate Mara, like so many other entertainers needs to re-think what being an entertainer is all about. It's not about making money. it's about making someone watching really believe that you are who you're portraying.
Based on my intuition, I rate the film. lol.
I really enjoyed this true story movie in theaters last night with mom and we loved it. I will own this movie in a few more years.
One of the best movies I have seen in a long time. How they trained these dogs for the film is unbelievable. The movie put you in with the soldiers as if you are there with them, so realistic, sad and scray. Just a great movie, unfortuately the title doesn't give it justice and very little publicity.
