What if, in the wake of more than a decade of devastating weather events, we finally found a way to control Mother Nature and the destruction her tirades entail? When catastrophic climate change endangers Earth’s very survival, world governments unite and create Project Dutch Boy: a global net of satellites surrounding the planet that are armed with geo-engineering technologies designed to stave off the natural disasters. After successfully protecting the planet for two years, something is starting to go wrong. Two estranged brothers (Gerard Butler, Jim Sturgess) are tasked with solving the program’s malfunction before a worldwide geostorm can engulf the planet.
Some things were never meant to be controlled.. After an unprecedented series of natural disasters threatened the planet, the world's leaders came together to create an intricate network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe. But now, something has gone wrong: the system built to protect Earth is attacking it, and it becomes a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything and everyone along with it.
Really good movie
I waited for this on Netflix but had almost bought it multiple times. I thought it would be a pretty bad movie with at least a lot of very cool weather scenes. Natural disaster special effects are usually pretty cool. They are SO SHORT it’s not worth watching the movie even to skip forward to them. The acting was also very bad. I’m a big fan of Gerard Butler even he was ridiculous in this.
Better than I thought it would be.
I was hesitant to rent the movie because of all the bad press. But I did it anyway and found myself pleasantly surprised. Sure it’s a lot of cgi but there’s a good story and great actors. People also referred to it as the Day After Tomorrow remake which i could see but it still had its own line. It’s not the best movie in the world but it’s certainly not the worst. And certainly doesn’t deserve all the bad press it has received
Okay, I get that this isn't "A River Runs Through It" because it's not sublime enough. Nor is it "Interstellar" for its attention to (at least some) science fact. But it is NOT as bad as people have been saying. The cast is good and they play it well (not woodenly). The plot jogs along pretty fast and you stay in it throughout the whole movie. The weaving of the standard big-budget disaster with a bit of a mystery is enjoyable, for a change. And the special effects ARE good. Is it scientifically accurate? No. Is it really plausible? A little maybe, until the end. Is it escapist and good fun? YES! Don't buy into the hate. Make up your own mind. But for me, it was a nice waste of time. I didn't come away a changed person but I did smile a lot during it. Took a star off for the implausable ending. Other than that, enjoy!
This movie was not that great. I wouldn’t waste any money on it. I would wait for it to come out on Netflix or Hulu. Then, just flick to the last 30 min.
This is an all around good movie. The acting isn’t cheesy the graphics are great! The director and cast did a great job! This movie worth a see.
The drama ws slow. Lots of talking and poor action. Not what expected.
Its very sad that people go and give high praise to crap like Star Wars and not rewarding simple good stories. This is a very decent movie and I liked it a lot.
Poorly made not a good story line
The Performance let down by an A-list cast was disappointing. However....even though the acting was something to be desired, still a decent entertaining film with an interesting plot but by no means an award winner on any level.
I liked some parts of this movie. But I wanted more destruction from this machine. And when it did come it was over faster than a teenage rendezvous. So I was quite disappointed by this. I’ve always been a big fan of weather movies as I grew up in the ‘90s when Twister, Armageddon, The Day After Tomorrow and of course I could go on. These movies had the sh%t hit the fan pretty much right away without too much of a story line because you don’t need one. The characters are too busy saving their collective asses for their to be one. And that’s okay with me because the weather itself is the villain so you don’t really need to create one from a human character. So this movie went above and beyond what they had to do and not in a good way. They took too long to destroy the planet and spread it out like the last drop of butter. Sometimes less is more but not in these types of movies. I want to see chaos and destruction and fear and people dying by the thousands in horrible ways. This movie just struck out. It could have done so much more with the storyline because there is room for a great movie within this story line and to me they missed the mark big time.
Save your time and money.
Predictable and ridiculous but fun. Stupid name. I didn’t notice any poor acting.
Ce film nous tient en haleine jusqu’à la fin! Très bon film!
Public service announcement; Geostorm is not about a sexy world weather catastrophe. It's about a bunch of DC dorks and a space cowboy named Gerard Butler who just walks around a space station for 2h.
Only rent this if you just want to see explosions and silliness with poor acting and predictable story lines. It wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, but I'm glad we didn't waste money in the theatres.
The story is completely far fetched; simply ridiculous but still entertaining.
Is it so bad to just watch a movie and have fun, this was alright and not that bad, it moved a little fast creating some plot holes but was entertaining, I think the problem is we have to much choice in what to watch, there is an actual condition where individuals faced with to much selection cannot enjoy their choice subconsciously, obsessing over what they did not choose to watch, that goes for the critics as well , how does Kickboxer Retaliation get 100% fresh in Rotten Tomatoes
This movie is so lacking in story, script, and acting. Gerard Butler did pretty good, but the rest could have stayed home and the movie would have been better.
Jesus! This is ridiculous and I really don’t understand why they made this movie. If you really want to save the world, try not to film another one.
Really enjoyed this movie. Similar to other “end of the world” type movies but still worth watching.
This gave me the distinct impression that only Ed Harris and Abby Cornish took this movie seriously. The two male leads just came across as glib and seemed to pay lip service to what should have been a really good movie. I'm not sure what's happened to Andy Garcia but he seemed awkward and misplaced as the President. Films like the Core seem to have far more substance to both the acting and the plot line. Geostorm is ok for light end-of-the-world type sci fi entertainment but I felt a bit ripped off at $7 for the rental. Shoulda waited till it was $2.
2017 was a great year. Had the best year to date. Now to review this movie, but first let me tell you what liked about my year that was 2017. Everything.... until I sat down and watched this load of horse manure they called a movie. Melodramatic much!! Poor casting and the brothers deserve to be both on Young & The Restless and even that’s a stretch for them.
I love sci-fi but they needed to leave out the all the corny dialogue. And what's with the mobile phone number cryptic message. Gag worthy. Maybe more credible as a serious film, or maybe Bruce Willis and Ben affleck should have reunited to save the world, at least we cared about those characters.
Visually fun, lots of noise, great story idea. Acting certainly not A list but it’s fun enough as a Saturday night hoot. There are worse end of world films out there; this isn’t as bad as some suggest. We had fun, expecting little. Go for it!
This is a watchable A- grade sci fi movie. Great cast of actors having a bit of fun. When actors are good, i will overlook the the thin predictable story. The writers/directors and producers should have done more IT research and could have made it more 'believable' , we stretch our imagination in most movies and overlook a lot of mistakes but they should not let their lack of effort be so obvious. The last few movies has had terrible casting. Especially when the actors 'daughters' looks older or about the same age than the 'mother' on the screen . I reckin Gerard Butler's acting skills are improving.
I good Sunday arvo film that doesn’t make you think too much
Absolute garbage , did not pay attention to bad reviews, rented and regretted. $6.99 wasted.....
The movie is an absolute shocker. Ridiculous predictable plot, full of cliches and silly sub-plots (including a dog avoiding disaster to reunite with a boy, of course saving the world with a second to go, miraculously avoiding death to a cheering NASA room, and reunited with a daughter, who gives a lecture at the end about how if we all pull together as one world then we will survive. Who writes plots like this?!!
Don’t rent, don’t buy!!! I am dumber for having watched this. How the heck they got some A-list actors to do this film is the truly amazing piece. The one saving grace.....nope, there is not one.
The best part of this movie was when I deleted it!
Worst movie I've ever seen
The concept had potential however, the acting, special"less" effects, and directing are low budget! Wait for this to come out on standard television! Garbage!!!
Not one character did I care for.
One of the best disaster movies I’ve seen
Too predictable, high on the cheese factor and a rather weak script. Sad considering the great cast and special effects.
I started watching this film and realized immediately that is was nothing more than another attempt by Hollywood to cram thier liberal agenda of global warming and one world order down the collect American throat. This movie is pretentious and so out of touch. Do you think we would really build a weather modifying satellite and then just hand it over to the UN with its 3rd World thugs! This was a bomb at the box office for good reason. Hollywood, you are on the wrong side of history, will you just realize that and start making good movies again!
Wasn’t bad. I’d watch it again.
Bad acting, bad script, bad movie
