Award-winning actress Frances McDormand (Fargo) delivers a stunningly powerful performance in this darkly comic drama that has been hailed as one of the year’s best films. A murdered girl’s defiant mother (McDormand) boldly paints three local signs with a controversial message, igniting a furious battle with a volatile cop (Sam Rockwell) and the town’s revered chief of police (Woody Harrelson.)
. After seven months have passed without a culprit in her daughter's murder case, Mildred Hayes makes a bold move, painting three signs leading into her town with a controversial message directed at Bill Willoughby, the town's revered chief of police. When his second-in-command Officer Jason Dixon, an immature mother's boy with a penchant for violence, gets involved, the battle between Mildred and Ebbing's law enforcement is only exacerbated.
Really enjoyed this movie. It can be a little heavy at times with a couple of chuckles but great performances by all involved. ...PS I would not call this a comedy by any stretch.
Frances McDormand looks more and morel like Willem Dafoe. I watched McDormand in Three Billboards, and William Dafoe in Murder on the Orient Express and could swear these two are looking the same. Check it out. They look very much alike. It's really weird.
an i like the actors in it but what a waste of time
Good movie, I love it
Great acting. Too bad the plot just didn't go anywhere. Could have been really good. I see why it wasn't in the cinemas for long.
Awesome. Holds no punches back. More women need to stand up like the main character.
I like a good drama, have liked these actors (and still do) but this movie sucked. Would have been fine as a 15 minute treatment, but obviously the premise itself (rape/murder)was not enough to carry the film. Add in character assassination, terminal illness, subsequent suicide, assault (dentist), arson, battery by a cop, another arson, battery to a former cop, reference to alleged racially-tainted-police-brutality, racism, domestic violence, dwarfism bigotry, and, to cap it off, a planned revenge killing. Any one of these is enough conflict for any one movie, but the studio/director/producer/whoever has included them all! And in one little town in a matter of days! I know there is an stumped suspense of disbelief when watching a movie, but come on for a documentary-drama style film, this is way over the top. 2 thumbs down in our house.
Saw it in theaters and I went in not expecting much..... I’m glad I saw it because it’s done so well
Life is not drama, life is not comedy, life is big fat mixed bag of it all and no writer handles that truth as deftly as Martin Mcdonagh. The test of a good witer, in my opinion, is the ability to make you get choked up in one moment and in the next make you snort with laughter. This movie is a beautiful example of that skill. I was really looking forward to this movie and not only did it not disapoint but it greatly exceeded my expectations. Every role from the smallest to the leads is perfectly played, the writing is perfection, the story surprises you and does not fall in to anything close to cliches or obvious routes; I could not have loved it more. The best proof of a great movie is that I thought about it and wanted to talk about it to anyone I could find for the next 24 hours. The best.
Fan of dark humor and dark drama so this one is a hit. Living in rural America, though, it really isn’t that far off the mark. Interesting. Loved it.
Everything about this movie is outstanding.
This movie is made for the SJW. If you're in the "I hate men" feminist-type mentallity, you will love this movie. If you watch the trailer, you would think it is some sort of mystery/thriller movie, but it really isn't. Also, if you think the protagonist of this movie is a strong woman, you are 100% wrong. Her actions are despicable. I shouldve left the theatre after 15 min of watching this movie and listened to my gut feeling but I though there would be some sort of plot twist... something interesting, I don't know! Oh, and please don't call this a "dark comedy", it is not a comedy movie at all. This movie is dumb and insulting. The good reviews and the oscars fooled me...
I looooved this movie. The acting is soectacular and frances mcdormand is amazing always. Maybe better than even. The plot is really good too and i wasnt bored a second. Great dark dramedie.
I understand why this movie is such a big oscar contender! Wow wow wow! Really good movie! And Frances McDormand was incredibly good!
This movie was phenomenal. Great & noteworthy performances by Woody Harrelson and Frances McDormand, and directed by the genius Martin McDonagh. It is profane, crude, and violent. But in this Crime/Drama masterpiece, there is much more of a deeper meaning than just dark-comedy for the sake of it. This is a MUST SEE!!!
