From filmmaker Steven Spielberg comes the science fiction action adventure “Ready Player One,” based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name. The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.
A better reality awaits.. When the creator of a popular video game system dies, a virtual contest is created to compete for his fortune.. Ready Player One Wiki
I really like the concept of this movie, and if you go into it not expecting a great plot and just enjoy the ride you will probably enjoy it too.
Rented this for 0.99 and regret not just throwing the money on the ground instead. The lead female was charming and that’s it, nothing else even near positive. All that budget and access to talent and this is what Spielberg dribbles out. Accept your senility Spielberg, stop making garbage and focus on feeding squirrels in the park. Z-
I loved every minutes of it! I didn’t think it would be that good but I was captivated. Probably one of my all time favorites in the action sci-fi genre.
I will first admit that this movie has visual effects that are destined to go down in film history. It has some absolutely breathtaking and revolutionary sequences that hardly ever suspend disbelief. A particular scene involivng The Shining imitates the feel of the film so incredibly it makes you feel as though the entirely CGI scene was shot by a camera. Unfortunately, this movie is filled to the brim with some truly terrible dialogue, some of the worst acting I've ever seen, a shallow plot that's impossible to become invested in, awkward and unsteady character motives and tones (i-R0k being the poster child of this) and a sequence of events that I was able to predict the scene before it happened. For a movie with such an imaginative concept and visuals, it ends up being one of the most unimaginative movies I've ever seen.
-9999 stars this movie is the worst one i've ever seen the characters are constantly changing their minds about things the plot is stupid the characters make stupid choices and it is nothing like the book the book is one of the best i've ever read but the movie was the worst i've ever seen I hate it I think you should never see it even if you'are insanly bored or liked the book!
Hollow 80’s reference movie with no substance, it’s an insult to YA books turned movies. I would give it no stars if that was an option.
This movie is awesome I recommend it to people over 12 or else it gets scary around stage 2. It’s a well written film with great acting. It is $2.99 so get it and enjoy it
It’s a complete waste of time.
Lots of flash and dash and not a whole lot more. With all the CGI, I'm not really sure why they need real actors anymore...
The movie is good but it's not cool. The storyline is very Disney and cheesy. But the graphics are really good. You won't hate it.
