Really, Really Quiet on the Western FrontPossibly the slowest, quietest, least action-oriented war picture I've ever seen. At times I felt like I was watching a Monty Python parody of the ultimate British war flick as the cast sits around waiting and waiting and waiting interminably for battle. I get what they were trying to say with it, and it looks very good, and it's reasonably well-acted. But all that didn't keep me from nodding off a few times..Score: 2/5
Profound. Humanity. Suffering....every man facing fear. ...every man doomed. “onion tea”, “livery” meat-rations ...imminent to be doused in poison gas and overrun by the German Army in the Spring Offensive of the mechanized war; this movie shows anguish, the PTSD, depression and isolation without a means to escape the insane orders to die. Among smokey visuals of this film, the sludge within the trench network combined with Guónadóttir’s Cello emulifies the soul of this tragic history. * the writing excellent; casting spot on; character development technically correct; consistency in dialogue; sets, accurate lighting, expert cinematography, acting all directed with gusto. —- i shall certainly like to see more movies by Saul Gibb! * the Cello music by Hildur Guónadóttir penetrates through this film like a heartbeat... on par with Nick Cave & Warren Ellis’s guitar throughout The Proposition..Score: 5/5
Not really a war movieMore of a war drama than a war action movie. A ton of character development that is acted and scripted well, but drags a bit considering they are at the front and not much is happening. More like Thin Red Line than Saving Private Ryan..Score: 3/5
Not about war, it’s about a single manThis is not an action movie. This movie isn’t even about the war. It’s about the toll the war took on a single man & how a young boy remembers the man he once knew. The acting is decent. The only way this could be classified as a war movie is the fact it happens in a trench & the last 20 minutes of the movie when the few war scenes take place. Eccentric people will love this due to how dull the movie is, action fans will not. I really expected more from this movie. Want to watch a good WW1 movie, watch 1917 instead..Score: 2/5

In the injustice of war causes stressThe main character over acts. He is upset at the injustice of circumstance and drinks too much. He yells, demands for more liquor. A young, new, inexperienced recruit shows up who knows the main character from the past. But we are never really shown specifics about their mutual past and as a result cannot put the contrast of the then and now circumstances into perspective. Shallow character development is a common theme. We really never are allowed any appreciation or attachment to any of the characters. The recurrent scenes of of boots going through muddy trenches rams home the point - yes it's muddy. Repeated scences of tense discussions with the cook on meals in the bunker that goes nowhere. It had potential but without meaningful dialogue and know deep character development I was relieved at the end when everyone died and the movie was finallly over. I am sad to say..Score: 2/5
Love War Films That Tell The TruthWar films have been a passion of mine. Films should entice the audience to look further into the events that have unfolded, rather than show a screen play full of BS and eyecandy action, in which will be forgotten in mere minutes. Those who have knowledge of WWI will love this movie. WWI was one of the most hopeless conflicts ever seen and this movie portrays it respectfully. Don't bash this movie with expectations of mind numbing action, its a film that tells a different war story..Score: 5/5
